ANC is currently recruiting for a full-time, permanent Environmental Technician role. Reporting to the Environmental Director, as part of our Technical & Environmental Department, this position collects, tests and reports on various product and environmental samples, maintains testing instruments, conducts environmental, quality, and process optimization studies, and provides relief for the Environmental Coordinator.
**RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**
- Routine collection, testing and shipping of regulatory and non-regulatory environmental samples.
- Collection and testing of wood chip samples.
- Collection and testing of pulp and paper samples.
- Quality Control and Quality Assurance testing.
- Instrument calibration and maintenance.
- Preparation of various reports.
- Data collection and preparation of spreadsheets.
- Process optimization studies.
- Relief for Environmental Coordinator.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental, Chemistry, Engineering and/or other relevant Science discipline is required.
- Experience working in an industrial environment, and/or with paper manufacturing chemistry, is a benefit.
- Incredible attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products, including Excel and Word, is required.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working as part of a cross-functional team.
- Willingness to be flexible on hours worked as dictated by the production needs to the mill.
- Ability to work on-call from time to time.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation as mill is located 13km from Whitecourt.
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Must be in good physical condition, and able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions such as heat, cold, and dust.
- Must be able to stand, walk, or kneel for extended periods of time.
This position is based at the ANC mill site. You must be located in or willing to relocate to Whitecourt, AB if chosen as the successful applicant.
