Building Operations Technician

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Operations, the incumbent is responsible for managing, assessing and coordinating the maintenance and repairs to existing facilities (college) buildings infrastructure systems and equipment and the coordination of project-based work to support the upkeep of Sheridan College buildings and infrastructure systems. This involves meeting with clients and project stakeholders, defining project objectives and scope of work, estimating budgets, producing conceptual & final layout designs, and engaging in consultants and/or contractors to deliver on projects work. The incumbent is also responsible for coordinating and managing the work performed by trades contracted to perform work for Sheridan.
The incumbent performs work following College policies and ensures adherence to legislation (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety, Ontario Building and Fire Code, and industry practices and guidelines etc.).
**What You’ll Be Doing**
- Coordinating in-house resources (students, faculty, and staff) to facilitate successful project completion;
- Meeting with project stakeholders, such as Deans, Associate Deans, managers, faculty, and staff to ascertain project requirements;
- Preparing project cost estimates for review and approval by Facilities Manager and/or budget holder;
- Obtaining quotes, vendor selection, setting schedules, and monitoring project progression;
- Performing minor repairs and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s specifications or supervisor’s instructions, using hand and power tools, precision, or testing devices;
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing doors, door hardware, window hardware, floors, ceilings, partitions, counters, cabinets, benches, floors, doors, building framework and trim, office equipment/furniture, classroom, and fixtures/equipment;
- Troubleshooting, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining plumbing systems, equipment and fixtures including storm and sanitary drain lines, interior & exterior infrastructure, water taps, flush valves, seal trip primers and valves, faucets, lavatories, water heaters, boiler backflow devices, water meters, and damaged plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, and showers;
- Reviewing work order system, setting/assigning tasks to full-time or part-time staff;
- Performing other related duties as assigned.

- Possess a trade certification (Certificate of Qualification) as a Facilities Mechanic or Facilities Technician;
- Minimum of three years of experience working in the maintenance/repair of large institutional/education, commercial, and/or industrial buildings (or a relevant combination of education and experience);
- Have the ability to operate industrial equipment such as hand wrenches, power tools, specialized monitoring equipment for air temperature, RH % monitoring device, electrical monitoring, and moisture reading tools;
- Be able to document data for record keeping purposes as well as understand and use operating manuals, wire diagrams, construction plans and diagrams;
- Ability to implement all safety procedures in accordance with health and safety legislation and established policies and procedures is required;
- Have experience with managing multiple tasks/projects simultaneously, as well as an understanding of project management stages, project scope, bids, award/PO, notifications, AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act), OBC (Ontario Building Code), OFC (Ontario Fire Code) requirements, documentation, project monitoring, final inspections, close-out, and payment;
- Possessing the 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate or Building Environmental System (BES) I and II Certificates would be considered an asset.
