**About the Opportunity**:
The Safety Coordinator reports to the Central Zone Manager, Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness. The Safety Coordinator provides support and guidance regarding Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), along with the development of programs and the development/delivery of training that supports the critical elements of the Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness Management System (OHSWMS). The Safety Consultant’s ultimate responsibility is to ensure regulatory compliance with the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations, standards and best practices. The Safety Coordinator is also responsible for providing direction to all levels of management to effectively and efficiently implement the OHSWMS. The Safety Coordinator is responsible to continuously audit the OHSWMS to ensure compliance with the Act and applicable regulations. The Safety Coordinator works collaboratively with the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees to ensure they are established and functioning as required in the Act. The Safety Coordinator acts as a resource to assist in inspections, audits, and investigating and identifying corrective actions regarding health and safety issues. They are also responsible for providing expert safety services to all facilities/departments of Nova Scotia Health Authority. The Safety Coordinator acts as a liaison with the Department of Labour and Advanced Education.

Utilizing outstanding communication skills the Safety Coordinator supports a culture of safety by providing direction to all levels of the organization with respect to integrating safety into their operations. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing timely, accurate and expert interpretation of the OH&S legislation as well as industry standards and best practices.

**About You**:
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

- Certificate in OH&S or Certificate of Health & Safety & Environmental Processes or equivalent
- Membership in good standing with professional or industry association such as National Construction Safety Officer and/or Construction Safety Supervisor
- Additional training/certification in areas of safety
- Minimum 3 year related experience in the area of OH&S
- Experience in the area of Construction Safety required
- Experience in Corrections, Mental Health and Addictions and/or related fields is considered an asset
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation or eligibility to obtain
- Knowledge in OH&S Management Systems
- Knowledge of OH&S Act & Regulations as well as industry best practices
- Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development
- Excellent computer skills, familiar with enterprise software systems, database, presentation software, work processing and statistical analysis software
- Demonstrated strong organizational, leadership & team skills with emphasis on decision making, problem solving, motivational & communication skills
- Access to a reliable transportation
- Travel will be required
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Permanent full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

**Compensation and Incentives**:
$32.25 - $39.15 Hourly
