Oakville, Canada Sheridan College Full time

Reporting to the Manager, Student Advisement, the Embedded Student Adviser, School of Education, Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies (FAHCS) provides developmental and academic advising support for students in designated programs in a Faculty. There is also an indirect accountability to the Associate Dean to which their programs belong, as the Adviser is required to have an in-depth knowledge of the academic requirements for their responsible programs and high level of institutional knowledge (both academic and student experience/support familiarity). The Adviser plays a significant role in the development of students and has the responsibility of understanding the whole person including their needs, skills, attitudes, beliefs, strengths and values and, through the use of this information, the Adviser works with the student to develop meaningful academic goals, improve academic progress through their program, and provides advisement for students who are unclear about their next steps regarding any aspect of their Sheridan experience. The role of the Adviser is complex, requiring the incumbent to exercise a high degree of autonomy, discretion and judgment to evaluate and recommend the best course of action on student matters and interactions. The goal of the Adviser is to support their students’ successful transition to Sheridan and understand the issues that impact student academic, personal and social adjustment to postsecondary education. The Adviser also leads the research, planning, development and delivery of various programs related to transition and student persistence. This includes the ongoing evaluation of program components to measure their impact on students’ academic adjustment and experience within Sheridan to inform both Student Advisement and the Faculty/School for future planning.

- Following-up with students regularly to check on progress, provide on-going support and review any next steps; monitoring students’ progress to identify issues and reaching out to students who require additional support;
- Maintaining accurate and comprehensive information related to assigned program (i.e. requirements, program values, policies, industry standards);
- Maintaining case records of all student interactions in CRM (database) to track student journey and mitigate risk;
- Leading the research, development and delivery of student success, transition, and retention initiatives for students;
