**JOB POSTING**

The Hamilton Police Service is committed to creating a workplace that is equitable, diverse and inclusive. The Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Specialist (“EDI Specialist”) will facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of the Service’s Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Strategy. The EDI Specialist will partner with internal stakeholders to ensure EDI principles are embedded within core processes, policies and day to day operations of the Service. Through the development and implementation of the Service’s diversity and inclusion initiatives, the EDI Specialist will support the Service in fostering and achieving a culture of respect, equity and accessibility that is free of discrimination.

**Duties, but not limited to**
- Facilitates the development, implementation and evaluation of EDI initiatives in support of the Service’s EDI Strategy.
- Act as a resource to members and leaders on all matters related to equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Develops and monitors metrics to measure the progress and effectiveness of EDI initiatives.
- Work with internal stakeholders to evaluate systemic practices, policies, procedures and processes that may be discriminatory, and provides recommendations to leadership and members on eliminating barriers that result in differential treatment, marginalization, discrimination and/or harassment.
- Develops and implements various education and awareness initiatives including training, communications and information sessions.
- Prepares reports, and correspondence including Police Service Board reports, related to equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Participates on internal committees that have an EDI or human rights component.
- Develops and maintains a network of internal stakeholders, community partners and thought leaders in EDI.
- Keeps abreast of current trends, legislation and best practices to ensure the HPS is proactive in various equity, diversity and inclusion strategies.

**Education & Experience**
- Successful completion of a three (3) year University degree in a related field, preferably social justice, social studies, human rights, business or public administration or political science.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in equity, diversity and inclusion policies, programs and initiatives.
- Experience working with diverse, vulnerable, and marginalized communities, groups and organizations, and the ability to manage the needs of multiple stakeholders.

**Certifications & Licenses**
- Must possess a valid Class G Driver’s License, or the equivalent, with no more than six (6) accumulated demerit points, permitting you to drive an automobile in Ontario with full driving privileges.
- A designation and/or certificate in one of the following disciplines would be considered an asset: Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional (CCIP) certification, Leadership Diversity and/or Inclusion Certificate.

**Skills & Competencies**
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Accessibilities for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Human Rights Code.
- Political acumen and the ability to facilitate discussions on challenging topics, and to collaborate towards solutions.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, training and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with project management and change management.
- The ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Broad understanding of current social issues, and the impact of those issues on as they related to achieving a diverse and inclusive workforce, particularly in policing.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
