**Youth Engagement Coordinator**

**As a potential team member you will help to create meaningful service opportunities for youth from our target communities, and help them to develop the skills, leadership abilities and empathy they need to make a positive difference in their local community**.

**Your successful presentation and facilitation experience, as well as your energetic and professional attitude, will be instrumental in this role. Using your creativity and skills, you will also identify and attract suitable youth volunteers, with a focus on young males, to act as Youth Peer Mentors to the at-risk and newcomer kids (6-15) in our 1:1 Peer Mentoring Program.**

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Develop and execute a proactive **volunteer recruitment strategy** in collaboration with our existing Recruitment Team
- Develop a **network of community partners** who will refer potential youth volunteers on an ongoing basis to fulfill the agency’s current and future needs
- **Develop new creative methods to recruit** male Youth Volunteers aged 16 to 29
- Facilitate effective leadership and mentor training workshops for new applicants within targeted communities
- Develop, coordinate and chair a Youth Steering Committee
- Work with other members of the program team to **network with organizations that focus on volunteerism, ethno-specific communities and male-dominated regions**
- Maintain links with current recruitment sources and assist in developing new sources
- Develop strong relations with Program Staff to identify recruitment gaps and expectations, and to determine the profiles of ideal volunteers
- Coordinate and facilitate youth programs within target communities

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Strong overall knowledge of issues facing marginalized Toronto youth in the target communities. Lived experience in one of these communities is an asset
- Fluent in a second language is an asset, specifically one of the South Asian languages
- Experience engaging with youth from a range of socially and culturally diverse backgrounds through verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
- Experience working with youth-serving organizations within the specific target communities is an asset
- Familiarity with the barriers and specializ needs of youth who are experiencing barriers related to involvement in the criminal justice system, cultural adjustment and/or suffering from mental health issues, trauma and learning disabilities
- Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, and the ability to make inspiring marketing recruitment presentations
- Superior organizational skills, excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask and prioritize workload
- Confident motivational speaker and facilitator with the ability to deliver effective orientation and training sessions
- Able to think outside the box and develop new recruiting methods specific to the targeted communities
- Excellent judgment in setting priorities, identifying issues and determining action required when working under pressure and meeting deadlines
- Able to work independently, make cold calls, use time effectively, juggle tasks, set priorities and focus on details
- Good at using social media tools and able to use a computer, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Must be able to work some evenings and occasional weekends
- A valid Ontario class “G” driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle considered an asset
- Event planning experience is an asset
- Post secondary education in Outreach and/or Volunteer Management
- Must be able to provide a clear Vulnerable Screen Criminal Record Check
- Must have a current First Aid and CPR certificate

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
