RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT WORKER
Position Summary
Requirements and Qualifications
Residential Support Workers at Cedar Heights are required to hold a University Degree or College Diploma in the social service field. Related experience with individuals with special needs is also required. Upon hiring, Cedar Heights requires employees to have the following documentation:
a) Valid Driver’s License
b) $1,000,000 Liability Automobile Insurance
c) Valid CPR, CPI and Medication/Pharmacology Certificates
d) 1 Personal Reference, 3 Professional References
e) Criminal Reference Check from the O.P.P. (dated within the past 6 months)
Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Be aware of, and respond appropriately to dangers
- Report all accidents, unusual conditions and injuries immediately in writing
- Correct all possible hazards before they happen
- Report any defects in appliances, wiring, heating, railings, structure, or other safety concerns immediately in writing
- Keep workplace orderly
Communication Responsibilities
- Record daily activities and other relevant information in the Communication Binder, Individual Client Binders
- Read the Communication Binder at the beginning of each shift and follow through with tasks and activities as indicated
- Maintain a knowledge of current trends in the social services field
- Attend all scheduled meetings and in-service training sessions
- Have a working knowledge of the Emergency Pager System, and the ability to implement when necessary
- Have a working knowledge and understanding of allEmergency Procedures (i.e., Fire, Police, AWOL, Suicide)
- Keep staff and Program Manager aware of any problems with building, equipment and grounds
- Liase with other agency staff and families as required
Administrative Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team with all staff members to ensure program stability
- Fill out personal time sheet and submit to Program Manager for approval
- Become familiar with and abide by the Policy and Procedures Manual (i.e., Policies, Procedures, Code of Conduct, etc.)
- Fill out other necessary documentation (i.e., Serious Occurrence Reports, Incident Reports, Accident / Injury Reports, House Checklists, Request for Time Off, etc.)
- Administer, and record the administration of, medication (Prescription and Non-Prescription)
- Become familiar with individual client profiles
- Participate in Behaviour Modification and Behaviour Management of the residents
- Support clients in all areas of physical and health needs, nutrition and diet, and personal hygiene
- Support clients with regards to their rights, responsibilities, cultural and religious backgrounds
- Complete regular house maintenance (i.e., chores, cleaning, basic repairs)
- Take clients to scheduled appointments (i.e., Doctor, Dentist, Psychiatrist, Optometrist, etc.)
Case Management
Full time staff may be assigned to a specific individual. This person will be responsible for completing the client’s monthly Progress Reports, Plan of Care, Individual Program Plans (I.P.P.), Behaviour Modification (i.e., Token Economy), Short-term and Long-term Goal Setting, etc.
Miscellaneous
The Duties and Responsibilites of the Residential Support Worker may be changed from time to time and the Residential Support Worker may be required to perform other duties as assigned by the Day Program Co-ordinator, Program Manager and/or the Executive Director.

- Day shift
- Holidays
- Monday to Friday
- Night shift
- Overtime
- Weekend availability
