**Garden Team Lead**

We’re looking for enthusiastic, team motivators to lead one of our gardening crews.

In the role of Garden Team Lead, understanding people is as strong an asset as horticulture knowledge. Goal achievement depends on the efforts of the whole team, nothing is accomplished alone. While always leading by example, effective team leaders use an open and positive communication style to rally the support they need. This position requires proactive relationship building at many levels. You’ll play an integral role in helping team members feel welcome and gain proficiency, as well as maintaining positive relationships with clients on behalf of Horticare.

**Job Characteristics**

As a Garden Team Leader, you’ll facilitate and take part in completing a diversity of tasks throughout the working season.

General tasks include:

- Organizing a team of 2 gardeners to maintain high-end landscapes.
- Performing gardening team duties such as spring and fall clean-ups, planting, and garden maintenance.
- Garden maintenance includes weeding, cultivating, pruning shrubs, and pest management.
- Promoting team safety, and professionalism.
- Anticipating and organizing any equipment and/or materials needed for the day's work.
- Accurately tracking and recording information that is pertinent to payroll, client billing, or client follow-up.
- Providing guidance and recommendations on plant care
- Assisting with the onboarding of new employees.
- Aiding in the design of new gardens and recommending appropriate plant materials for garden beds.

**Requirements**:

- Valid G class driver's license and a clean drivers abstract
- Steel-toed safety shoes - All other mandatory PPE is provided
- Valid Standard First-Aid Certification or willingness to obtain
- Willingness to work in a variety of weather
- Ability to lift 30lbs
- Eligible to work in Canada

**The following items are not required but are considered an asset**
- Horticulture experience (strongly recommended)
- Fluent in French

**Details**

Team leaders start the day around 6 am by picking up a company vehicle from our shop in Carlsbad Springs (East end of Ottawa) and meeting their team by 6:50 am at the St. Laurent Shopping Centre. From there, you travel together to job sites. The official workday starts at 7 am for your crew, they should be finished and back at the meeting spot by 4:30 pm. The team leader’s day ends when you park your company vehicle for the evening.

Flexible, alternate overnight vehicle storage options and/or additional travel compensation are to be discussed upon interview.

A typical work week is Monday to Friday. During our busy spring and fall season work may be rescheduled for Saturdays due to poor weather.

**Hours Per Week**: 45 - 55 hours (averaging +/- 50)

**Season Duration**: April to December 1st (weather depending).

**Salary**: $23.00-$25.00 per hour

- 10 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday

Supplemental pay types:

- Bonus pay

**Experience**:

- Landscaping: 1 year (preferred)
- Supervising/Managing: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- G Class Drivers License (required)
