**What would my role be?**
Reporting to the Manager, Health Records, you will be responsible for qualitative and quantitative analysis, coding and abstracting of patient health records according to standards of practice established by Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) and Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). You will also notify physicians of deficiencies via the Incomplete Record Notification Procedure and be a resource for all hospital staff for medico-legal correspondence and replace Health Records staff as necessary.
**How do I qualify?**
Required:
- Two (2) year Community College Diploma in a recognized Health Information Management (HIM) program.
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience
- Certified member of Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)
Preferred:
**What skills should I possess to succeed in the role?**
- Strong working knowledge of Bruyère Health’s policies and procedures and of the HIM module in MEDITECH which includes the Incomplete Records Desktop, Record Locator Desktop and Release of Information Desktop modules
- Thorough understanding of ICD 10 diagnostic coding/abstracting.
- Thorough medico-legal knowledge.
- Client focused.
- Able to work independently.
- Able to multitask.
- Knowledge of release of information (ROI) practices.
- Knowledge of Ontario’s privacy legislation and how it applies to a Health Record department
- Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills.
- Able to work under pressure and adapt to change.
- Able to use an EMR for activities such as ROI, abstracting, chart deficiency reviews.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
