Criminal Legal Assistant

**Responsibilities and Requirements**
- Opening files, and preparing them for trial
- Conducting intake phone interviews and other communications, helpfully and professionally
- Assisting with preparation of legal documents, and organizing evidence
- Maintaining strict confidentiality
- Managing lawyers’ schedules
- Handling correspondence to and from clients, the Crown Attorney, and Courts
- Working with LEAP, Microsoft Word, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Sharepoint, and PDF programs
- Oversight of client retainer and payment arrangements, including with Legal Aid Ontario
- General office administrative duties as assigned
**Qualifications**
- Prior law office or other office experience, is an asset but not required
- College diploma (legal assistant, clerk, paralegal) or University degree, is an asset but not required
- Office skills including administrative writing, document handling, word processing, scheduling, and client relations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and capacity to learn I.T. related to incoming disclosure of evidence
**Salary**:Commensurate with experience
**Job Type**: Full-time, Permanent, 35 hours per week
