Term Accounting Manager

**Southeast Collegiate** is the only school of its kind in all of Canada. It serves as a campus to First Nations students during the school year - educating students in a beautiful school facility and providing housing in the adjoining lodge.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Accounting Manager to cover a 14-month maternity leave. In this critical role, you will be responsible for all aspects of the company's financial operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. You will play a key role in supporting strategic decision-making by providing insightful financial analysis and reporting.
**Main responsibilities**:
**Financial Reporting & Analysis**
- Develop and prepare monthly financial statements and budget reports to principals, department heads and teachers.
- Conduct in-depth variance analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement
- Prepare and present financial reports to the Board of Directors for quarterly board meetings.
- Oversee the annual budgeting and forecasting processes
- Analyze financial data to identify opportunities for cost optimization
- Complete monthly classification reporting in QuickBooks.
- Conduct in-depth variance analysis to identify anomalies
**Financial Operations**
- Manage all aspects of accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing, bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Manage accounts payable, including invoice reconciliations, following up on credit memos and payment processing.
- Process semi-annual GST rebate reporting’s with CRA.
- Manage year-end audit preparation and support. Complete year end accruals.
- Oversee the budget and funding for the Mental Health Unit.
- Manage all purchase order requests.
- Enter biweekly payroll into QuickBooks and issue pension payments.
- Enter pre-paid monthly journal entries.
- Complete monthly petty cash reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and accounting standards.
**Financial Controls**
- Maintain strong internal controls, including policies and procedures for cash handling, credit card management, and purchase order systems.
- Oversee the company's building & D&O insurance policies. Renew policies as required.
- Complete fleet insurance renewals.
- Monitor and mitigate financial risks.
- Oversee the ordering of gift cards.
- Oversee the finances for graduation activities as required.
**Administrative & Support**
- Manage and maintain financial records and archives
- Provide support to other departments as needed, including assisting with financial planning and analysis for special projects.
- Complete Companies Office annual returns.
- Complete Statistics Canada surveys as required
- Manage purchasing schedule for the company driver
- Other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
- Certificate, Diploma or degree in accounting required
- Experience with year-end audit preparation and support.
- Experience with GST rebate reporting for CRA.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop, Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
- Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Efficient time management and handling deadlines.
- Excellent Communication: Verbal, written, and interpersonal.
- Clear Criminal Record: Pass a background check to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
- Experience working with First Nation communities
**Working Conditions**
- Based in a school setting.
- Minimal physical exertion; long periods of sitting are common.
- Regular interaction with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Requires handling inquiries and resolving complaints professionally.
- Must manage competing priorities, multitask effectively, and handle a high-volume workload. Work may involve frequent interruptions.
- Occasional extended hours and overtime may be required, based on workload demands
**Schedule**
- Monday through Friday, guaranteed 40 hours per week
- Hours of work - 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
**Salary** From $65,000.00 per year
*Employees who are registered with status under the _Indian Act_ do not pay federal income tax on their earnings.
