Home Base Housing is in the business of ending homelessness. We do this by caring and providing individual wrap-around services delivered by case managers to the vulnerably housed and homeless. With over 22 properties under our management we offer emergency, transitional and supportive housing, for youth, families and single adults, the One Roof Youth services hub, a housing help centre, street outreach, housing loss prevention services and advocate for affordable housing for all.

**Overview**
The Community Worker is responsible for the day-to-day operations and program planning of In From the Cold Emergency Shelter. The Community Worker is available to act as a resource for clients and address urgent situations. The Community Worker works with persons individually or in groups to create or enhance the feeling of community and participation within the program.
**Description**
The **Community Worker** is responsible for the following tasks:
- Creating a welcoming, supportive, respectful and safe atmosphere
- Working with clients to develop, implement and evaluate programming and social activities offered at the location
- Providing assistance and interim support to clients in attendance
- Encouraging client involvement in activities and obtaining feedback on these activities
- Supporting the goals established by the client and his/her case manager and ensuring on-going communication with the case manager
- Promoting safety and security at the location at all times, taking action as required
- Menu planning, shopping, preparing and providing meals as scheduled
- Maintaining daily housekeeping routines with tenant involvement as appropriate
- Initiating referrals and/or connections within agency or community
- Attending all staff meetings and training sessions as requested
- Completing other duties as assigned by Program Manager
**Communication and Record Keeping**
- Maintains data on number of persons in attendance and activities
- Prepares and circulates notes from any tenant meetings
- Other monthly statistics as required
- Menu plans and related record keeping
- Entries into the daily communication book as appropriate
- Entries into the client file as appropriate and completion of incident reports
- Attendance and participation at client review meetings
**Required skills and Knowledge**
- Demonstrated knowledge of homelessness issues, services available, mental health and /or addiction issues
- Understanding of community building philosophy and techniques
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong consumer focus
- Knowledge of housing, health care, and community resources in Kingston
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Demonstrated skills in planning and implementation of activities
- Demonstrated ability to deal with hard to serve clients and negotiate difficult situations
- Computer competency related to job function
**Qualifications**
- University Degree or Community College Diploma in Social Services or related field preferred
- 2 years experience working with the population preferred
- Regular access to a car and a valid driver’s license
- CPR and First Aid Certification required prior to employment
**Hours of Work**
**Every other weekend, including Statutory Holidays**
- Saturday & Sunday 8:30am -8:30pm
- Statutory Holidays 8:30am - 8:30pm
