The Restaurant Host is responsible to meet and greet all guests upon their arrival at the restaurant in a welcoming, friendly and professional manner, control the flow and organization of seating for all guests and assist the servers and bartenders during busy periods of service.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Maintain the restaurant’s reservation system to maximize seating throughout a meal service.
- Answer the restaurant phone within 3 rings in a pleasant, professional and clear manner.
- Pre-opening, ensure all menus are current, clean, wrinkle free and plentiful.
- Pre-opening, ensure all tables have the appropriate place settings - clean and polished glassware, chinaware, cutlery, napkins, etc. and the overall room is clean, debris free and also free of any deficiencies.
- Thorough knowledge of all menu items.
- Greet all guests in a welcoming, friendly and professional manner, reconfirming their reservation and show them to their assigned seating, pulling out chairs, handing out menus and providing any additional assistance if needed.
- Move and arrange tables, chairs, place settings, children’s booster seats for groups with special needs
- Handle all walk-ins to get them seated in a timely manner based on confirmed reservations and availability.
- Communicate any special guest requests with the servers and management to ensure the best service.
- Monitor the restaurant and outside patio (summer months) for seating availability, safety and the well being of all guests throughout the meal service.
- Assist the servers and bartenders in clearing tables, serving food and drinks during busy meal periods.
- Inform management of all guest queries or complaints so that they can be resolved and answered on the spot.
- Maintain order and cleanliness through the work area and restaurant through the meal service.
- Assist with side work duties and opening and closing procedures as outlined by management.
- Adhere to Health & Safety policies and procedures, sanitation and Food Safe Handling procedures and guidelines.
- May perform other duties and functions as assigned based on business levels throughout the resort by the F&B Manager and Assistant Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous work experience in a restaurant an asset
- Valid Smart Serve Certification
- Food Safe Handling Certification an asset
- Excellent guest relations and communication skills
- Possess strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
- Professional attitude and appearance at all times
- Knowledge of health and safety practices as directed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the resort’s health and safety standards
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works the majority of time indoor and outdoors during patio season (summer months)
- May carry hot or cold food plates/trays
- Must be able to bend, reach and lift at least 30lbs.
- Requires some heavy lifting, moving of furniture and equipment
- Must be able to walk and stand for an average of 8 hours per shift.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
