Kelowna & District SHARE Society is a secular charity that operates a thrift store in the downtown core. It offers a variety of programs to assist those in our community who are in need of material support and who would benefit from support in securing meaningful employment. S.H.A.R.E. is committed to hiring people from equity-denied groups. Among our current employees are those living with a visual impairment, a hearing impairment, struggling with depression, anxiety or other mental health issue, experiencing neurodivergent challenges, or recovering from a traumatic brain injury. As employers, S.H.A.R.E. promotes a peer support model, where people share their struggles with each other and receive support from their coworkers. Whenever possible, management provides adjustments to activities and work environments to better accommodate staff in the performance of their daily responsibilities. While most charity thrift stores are used solely as a source of revenue in support of programs, S.H.A.R.E.’s is an integral part of program delivery. The peer support model used among staff is extended to include participants in the program.

**Retail Sales Assistant**

18-24 hours per week, includes Saturdays, no Sundays

Work hours: 10:00-4:30

Wage: $18-$19 per hour
- Job duties include: _
- Educating the public as to how their donations serve their community;
- Processing donations and routing to appropriate destination - hard goods, soft goods, or trash/recycling;
- Sorting all donations as to their condition and pricing them for the thrift store;
- Preparing buggies and/or hanging clothes for distribution in the store;
- Merchandising inventory, pricing items and creating in-store displays of items as needed;
- Assisting customers, informing them of sales;
- Working indoors and outside, covering other departments as needed;
- Working to ensure that items qualifying for recycling are placed in their respective bins, assisting in maintaining a high standard for the recycling program;
- Cleaning is required to maintain a sanitary workplace.
- Skills required: _
- Ability to lift 50lbs or more,
- Work safely in a very busy environment, where space can be limited;
- Exercising good judgment, discriminating between saleable and unsaleable items;
- Work well independently and as part of a team;
- Friendly, outgoing personality;
- Some knowledge of thrift stores would be useful;
- Retail experience would also be an asset.

Wage: $18-$19/hr
