Patrons participate in the educational, recreational, cultural and social programming; enjoy the delicious low cost meals offered at the cafeteria; or simply enjoy the Centre as the “living room of the Downtown Eastside". **Specific Duties & Responsibilities**: - Plans, develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates programs and events - Develops, organizes and implements administrative systems and procedures - Maintains operating, administrative and statistical records - Coordinates park volunteer and peer programs, by recruiting, training, directing and supporting volunteer participation - Builds and maintains effective working relationships with park patrons, community partners and external stakeholders to develop and lead programs - Leads and supports project/program development and fundraising endeavors - Plans, assigns, reviews and supervises the work of a small group of staff - Develops, coordinates and supports collaborative community projects - Develops, supports and implements park related planning processes - Seeks to resolve disputes and de-escalate conflicts, administer first aid, calls police and other emergency services as required - Maintains park grounds to ensure facilities are clean and all unsafe materials have been removed;contacts other City of Vancouver teams when additional maintenance work is required - Assists patrons experiencing personal crisis; provides referral services as required - Performs related work as required. **Qualifications**: **Education**: - Completion of Grade 12 education supplemented by some University level courses in the social sciences, recreation, or adult education, or related discipline and some related experience (preferably a minimum of two years related experience.) - Experience in a community, social service or healthcare setting an asset. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Working knowledge of multi-cultural, low income, inner city environments, of the interests, problems and needs of the residents of the Downtown Eastside, including people with mental illness and addictions - Considerable knowledge of the methods and practices related to program coordination in the areas of culture, arts and crafts, volunteers and physical wellness programs - Strong community engagement and facilitation knowledge and experience - Working knowledge of Downtown Eastside service providers and community development methods - Ability to create, promote, coordinate and lead recreation programs, community-level initiatives, and special events - Experience working cross-culturally with diverse community groups, including Indigenous and Chinese-speaking communities - Strong administrative and coordination skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite, office administration, report writing and recording metrics - Proven grant writing and fundraising ability - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the community - Strong supervisory skills including the ability to motivate, plan, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of staff and volunteers - Excellent verbal, written and visual communication skills - Ability to lead activities where lifting, walking and assisting others may be required - Ability to perform in a demanding work environment and to respond to emergencies effectively - Knowledge of local services for low-income and homeless people and ability to provide referral services to people in crisis situations - Occupational First Aid Level 1 - Food Safe Level 1 an asset - Fluency in another language is an asset - Must be able to work weekend and/or evening shifts as needed Driver’s License and Record Checks: - A current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or higher and a satisfactory driving record; Class 4 Driver’s License an asset - A Police Record Check is a requirement of this position.
