Child and Youth Program Support Worker

For 50 years, Nellie’s has provided shelter and support for marginalized women and their children in the Greater Toronto Area. We operate programs and services for women and their children who had or are experiencing violence, poverty, and homelessness. Nellie’s works to lessen homelessness for women and their children, whether the cause is family violence, mental health, or any other reason that results in dealing with the impact of trauma.

Nellie’s is currently looking to hire a Child and Youth Program Support Worker. The Child and Youth Program Support Worker will be responsible for assisting the Child and Youth Program Coordinator in developing, coordinating, and implementing programs for infants, children, and youth ages 0-17 in the shelter.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Program Delivery**
- Works as part of a team to develop, implement and facilitate infant/children and youth programs at the shelter.
- Organize age-appropriate developmental activities for infants, children and youth.
- Ensures that all health and safety guidelines and shelter policies are followed.
- Support implementation of children’s safety audit.
- Provide input into creation of policies for children’s programming.
- Ensure effective evaluation of the children’s program using the Logic Model.
- Maintain the training binder for the children’s program, including curriculum, policies and forms.
- Communicates with parents, shelter and community support staff.
- Advises shelter and community support staff of suspected abuse immediately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- To provide childcare support when needed.

**Administration**
- Responsible for completing all required documentation, statistics, and reports.
- Report writing as required.

**Other Duties**
- Works co-operatively as a member of the shelter team.
- Attends regular team meetings, staff training sessions and planning meetings.
- Supervises volunteers and students as needed.

**Qualifications**
- Experience/education working with infants/children and youth from families living with violence and homelessness
- Proven commitment to AR/AO principles
- Strong leadership skills
- Experience developing and implementation of children’s program curriculums considered an asset.
- Able to commit to required hours
- At least Grade 12 Diploma
- 2 or more years’ experience working with children in crisis and/or in the areas of homelessness, poverty and violence considered an asset.
- Experience in and commitment to working within an anti-oppression framework
- Experience in the social service sector ideally in an agency delivering counseling, crisis intervention or advocacy services
- Able to work shifts including evenings and weekends
- Consistently demonstrates reliable professionalism in working in, out and across the organization
- Strong computer and database management skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of the social service sector
- Strong understanding of child & family services
- Networking skills
- Early childhood education an asset

**Hours: 35 hrs/week**

**Salary: $24/hourly**

Pay: $24.00 per hour
