**Work hours**: This position offers a schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm.

**Location**:Parks and Fire Administration Centre.

**General Purpose**:
To undertake building and grounds maintenance for all Township facilities, parkland, sports fields, cemeteries, and trails. To ensure the safe operation, compliance, and hazard assessment of mechanical equipment, building code, playground apparatus, trenching procedure, and heavy equipment use. All of this is conducted to provide the community with recreational services that are upheld and maintained to the highest of standards.

**Responsibilities**:

- Responsible for the general maintenance and security of all facilities, parkland, trails and sports fields operated by the Township, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, sports field maintenance, and fire safety standards.
- Performs all duties consistent with the safe operation and maintenance of all Township parks and facilities.
- Inspects and ensures safe operation of all playground equipment and artificial sports turf field on a regular basis and repair and correct any deficiencies as required; completes inspection logs and retains administrative records.
- Responsible for the maintenance and inspections of Township trails on a regular basis.
- Responsible for the inspection and maintenance of trees within the parks and trails of the Township.
- Responsible for interments in Riverside Cemetery, as well as conducting one’s self with the appropriate etiquette and sensitivity to those in the bereavement process.
- Supervises seasonal/summer students and part-time staff when required.
- Ensures compliance with provincial regulations and Township procedures.
- Winterizes specified outdoor facilities and equipment annually.
- Assists the Parks & Facilities Supervisor as required.
- Purchases supplies required for parks and facilities maintenance activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Parks & Facilities Supervisor.

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
- Community College Diploma in Horticulture or Recreation and Leisure would be an asset.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in grounds / park maintenance or related field.
- Ability to interpret maps, plans and other drawings. JD-CS-013 Parks and Facilities Technician Page 2 of 2.
- Experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing and carpentry would be an asset.
- Excellent public relations and communications are required.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment such as loaders and skid steer.
- Experience with chainsaw operation and woodchipper; ball diamond grooming and sports turf maintenance would be an asset.
- Experience with playground inspections and maintenance would be an asset.
- Experience with maintenance of artificial turf fields would be an asset.
- Valid “G” driver’s license and good driving record (AZ DZ license an asset).
- A clean Criminal Record Check is required upon hire.

**Working Conditions**:

- Exposure to chemicals consistent with recreational operations.
- Frequent lifting and hauling of heavy equipment, machine parts, tools, etc.
- Exposure to hazardous weather conditions (Snow, rain, sleet, wind; etc.).
- Position requires continuous vigilance relative to facility and equipment maintenance to ensure public safety and proactive risk management.
- Position is expected to be “on-call” on a rotating basis for parks and facilities emergencies.
