Waste Diversion Program Assistant

Strathcona County’s Utilities department is seeking a Waste Diversion Program Assistant to support the operations of the HodgePodge Lodge. In this role, you will take a lead position at the Lodge, welcoming and assisting visitors, coordinating day-to-day activities, and collaborating with volunteers to ensure a positive and organized experience for all.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Provide assistance to residents visiting the lodge, accept or deny donations, answer questions and handle escalated issues that arise
- Organize, clean, and purge the shelves within the Lodge
- Help execute special events at the Lodge like school tours and public events
- Provide orientation, guidance, and support to volunteers; ensure daily tasks are completed; foster a positive and engaging atmosphere; and manage feedback, references, and hour sign-off
- Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**and Skills**:
- High school diploma with related experience engaging groups of people and interacting with the public
- Knowledge of Strathcona County’s HodgePodge Lodge and an understanding of its purpose and contribution to the community are considered an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (outgoing and interactive approach) with the ability to engage and communicate with the public in a positive manner
- Ability to work independently, multi-task and problem solve
- Effective time management skills with the ability to work under time constraints
**Conditions of Employment**:
- Submission of a Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check- Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time [EW1]
Willingness to work evenings and weekends, ability to work Friday 12:00 pm - 6:15 pm and Saturday 10:00 am - 6:15 pm, with the possibility of extending to Tuesdays 12:00 pm - 6:15 pm in the spring
