Reporting to the Coordinator of French and Programs, the Student-Centered French Coach is a regional position dedicated to supporting student-centered literacy and mathematics planning, instruction, and assessment in elementary schools (P-5) in Early immersion programs. The student-centered coach will support Tier 1 practices in schools as well as focused, short-term intervention, Tier 2 support for identified students in literacy and math.

The role also includes supporting Grades 4-9 Core French teachers and programs in our region with planning, instruction, and assessment.

In addition to school-level support, the coach will lead regional professional learning communities, collaborate with fellow coaches and provide leadership aligned with DEECD and regional literacy/mathematics /Core French priorities. Coaches will also participate as active members on teaching support teams.

Successful Student-Centered French Immersion Coaches have understanding, knowledge, and skills in several key areas including:

- deep understanding of the grade P-5 literacy and math curriculum
- deep understanding of the grade 4-9 Core French curriculum
- comprehensive understanding of how students learn
- a strong belief that all students can be successful
- comprehensive understanding of evidence-based Tier 1 practices in instruction and assessment
- comprehensive understanding of the Neurolinguistic approach to French Second Language teaching and learning
- experience in co-teaching strategies and methods
- strategies for developing and maintaining positive relationships built on trust, and collaboration to enhance planning, problem solving, risk taking, and decision making
- ability to analyze barriers or problems and formulate recommendations that result in improved student learning and achievement
- strong oral and written communication skills (English and French)
- strong interpersonal skills
- strong planning, organization, and time management strategies to gain the maximum benefits from student-centered coaching
- effective use of technology to enhance teaching and learning
- ability to collect, enter, analyze, and interpret data to improve student learning and achievement
- demonstrated commitment to respect for diversity, inclusion, culturally responsive pedagogy, and social justice
- a commitment to professional learning and collaboration

**Training/Qualifications/Experience**:

- Valid Nova Scotia Teaching License, required
- A superior level of oral and written French proficiency, required
- Minimum of 5 years successful classroom teaching in French Second Language preferred
- Graduate Studies in curriculum and instruction preferred
- Prior coaching experience preferred
- Prior Early Math Intervention experience preferred
- Experience in professional development and facilitation considered an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with regional and provincial curriculum and program initiatives considered an asset
- Prior experience with _Acadience,_ _Le forêt de l’alphabet_, _Le sentier, Think SRSD _preferred
