**INFRASTRUCTURE SPECIALIST**
**INTERN**
Location: Brantford/Thunder Bay/Sudbury
The mandate of the Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is to provide technical and enhanced advisory services to all First Nations in Ontario. The OFNTSC provides service in the CMHC First Nation Housing Programs for Section 95, Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP) and Physical Condition Reporting (PCR) and Code Compliance utilizing the Ontario Building Code and National Building Code.
The OFNTSC understands there is a need to have qualified housing inspectors in Ontario to provide inspection services in Indigenous communities. The OFNTSC would like to engage with Indigenous Youth to provide a mentoring opportunity to allow the intern to gain additional hands-on skills to support a future role as a building inspector within Indigenous communities.
With six (6) qualified inspectors located in our offices in Thunder Bay and Brantford, we have the capability to provide job shadowing opportunities, expose the intern to the housing program in First Nation communities and provide opportunities for additional Ontario Building Code training.
The position will work out of the Thunder Bay office or the Brantford office and will report directly to the Director of Operations.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, the duties and responsibilities of the Infrastructure Specialist include:
- Job Shadow while inspections are being conducted for CMHC First Nation Housing Programs that include Section 95, Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP), Physical Condition Reporting (PCR) and Code Compliance Inspections utilizing the OBC and NBC and other applicable codes;
- Assist with the preparation of inspection reports;
- Assist with housing plan review, under the supervision of an Infrastructure Specialist (IS), to ensure compliance with code requirements;
- Provide support to the IS in activities related to the annual or periodic inspections of community facilities and understanding the terminology used in carrying out the Asset Condition Reporting System (ACRS) inspections;
- Provide research on new technology and methods of construction and capacity development;
- Develop an understanding of the procedures and protocols in dealing with First Nation communities, government bureaucracies and agencies;
- Provide First Nation communities with the skills and expertise necessary to manage
- Assist with the development and maintenance of Client records and evaluations.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- College Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Architectural Technology/Technician or another related specialty;
- Some working knowledge of the Ontario or National Building Code (training may be provided for individuals meeting the educational requirements to get Building Code Qualified through the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA));
- Construction Experience is considered an asset.
**SOFT SKILLS**:
- Ability to be a team player;
- Have a keen eye for detail;
- Work independently, when required;
- Willing to take additional training, as required;
- Knowledge of technical terminology as it relates to Infrastructure.
**You will be required to travel to First Nation communities, so access to a safe and reliable vehicle is a must.**
