**Position Summary**: The Financial Officer is responsible for the daily maintenance of our financial accounting systems and for the processing of all financial transactions related to the Village and its water utility.

**About the Village of Port Williams**:The Village of Port Williams is an incorporated Village under the Municipal Government Act (MGA). Overall Village operations are directed by a Village Commission with daily oversight duties assigned to the CAO/Clerk. The Village operates several public services including a water utility, parks and recreation services, wastewater collection, sidewalks, a community centre, and a volunteer fire department. The Village employs a small staff who work collaboratively as a team. Due to the scale of the village, the staff members work closely with their colleagues and support each other as needed.

- Experience using the Microsoft office suite / MS365 (word, excel, outlook, etc.)

**Responsibilities**:
Accounting and financial oversight
- Maintain the Village and Water Utility’s financial management system (Adagio Accounting Software) daily to ensure accurate bookkeeping
- Implement accounting controls, including regular system reports, to ensure the reliability of financial information
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of financial obligations
- Ensure that purchases are made in accordance with purchasing policies and procedures
- Manage general accounting procedures to ensure proper posting of transactions and timely closing of the books in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices
- Recurring financial tasks (e.g. insurance prepaids, interfund balance checks, bank reconciliation, deposits, balance petty cash, HST claims, rebates, expense reports etc.)
- Prepare and present a monthly financial reports to the Village Commission and staff
- In collaboration with the CAO draft the annual operating budgets for the Village and the Water Utility. Prepare the annual capital expense plans for the Village and Water Utility
- Track capital project expenses and ensure the appropriate allocation of capital and reserve funds to projects
- Prepare the quarterly water meter-reading route, receive the water meter readings from the Public Works Department, and facilitate the creation of water invoicing for distribution to customers in collaboration with the Administrative Assistant

Payroll and Benefits:

- Prepare payroll and confirm accuracy of payroll deductions
- Calculate and submit monthly employee benefit deductions to the Municipality of the County of Kings, submit Workers Compensation payments, submit payroll deductions to the Receiver General.
- Prepare annual tax submissions (T4, T4A, etc.**)**
