Assistant Controller

AgWest is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic **Assistant Controller** to join our finance team at the **Elie office**. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a leadership role and has a strong grasp of financial operations, compliance, and reporting standards. As Assistant Controller, you’ll oversee day-to-day financial operations, support a growing accounting team, and ensure timely and accurate reporting that aligns with **APSE standards** and **CRA requirements**.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead and support the accounting team, including Accountants and Coordinators, in daily operations.
- Assist in the preparation of accurate cash flow forecasts.
- Ensure timely and compliant completion of all CRA filings
- Assist in audit processes as needed.
- Maintain and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within the finance department.
- Period-end close process, ensuring deadlines and reporting accuracy.
- General ledger management and reconciliation activities.
- Collaborate with the Controller on financial statement preparation (monthly, quarterly, annual).
- Provide insight during budgeting and forecasting processes, utilizing financial data and trends.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and stay current with industry standards.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic financial policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
- ** CPA designation** or **actively enrolled** in the CPA **preferred**.
- Minimum **5 years of accounting experience.**:
- Strong background in financial reporting, budgeting, and CRA filings.
**Skills & Competencies**
- Expertise in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Deep understanding of APSE standards and Canadian financial regulations.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
- Experience in Dealer Management systems (Intellidealer or CDK) is an asset.
- Proven ability to lead teams and drive performance in a hybrid work environment.
**Working Conditions**
- Hybrid work environment with regular office presence at the Elie location.
- May require extended hours during peak reporting periods (month-end, quarter-end, year-end).
