Penasi Group Homes is a privately owned group home which opened in December 2012. The 8 bed residence provides clinical treatment and land based experiences for boys ages 8 to 12 years. Residents participate in daily recreational programming both on site and in the community. Activities vary by season but include hiking, swimming, bowling, riding their scooters or bicycles, volleyball, soccer and basketball. Winter activities include skating, hockey (both at the local outdoor rinks and indoor rinks) dog sledding and downhill skiing. The land based programming offers residents an opportunity to learn how to trap small game, learning how to fish, boating, swimming and campfires. Cultural programming includes attending Sharing Circles, fish frys, feasts and Pow Wow’s in the community. Residents also have opportunities to meet with Elders to learn traditional stories and drumming.
**Tasks**:Assess client's relevant skill strengths and development needs, Develop and implement the delivery of specific programming to the youth, Housekeeping activities, Food preparation, assist clients with special needs, participate in and encourage physically active, cultural, and land-based programming
**Qualifications**: One year of experience working directly with indigenous youth is preferred; an understanding of the child welfare system would be an asset.
**Must have**: A satisfactory criminal records check; ability to work shift work (includes evenings and weekends); a valid Class “G” Driver’s License; a valid Standard First Aid/CPR certificate; Complete a medical and receive the required immunizations as recommended; must participate in and qualify for certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training provided.
