Intake Coordinator

**ABOUT THE** **POSITION**:
Under the direction of the Administrative Manager, the Intake Coordinator serves as one of the first clinical points of contact for clients at KIDTHINK Children’s Mental Health Clinic Inc. (KIDTHINK). This role assesses client eligibility using standardized screening tools and other relevant information, conducts and coordinates the intake process for referrals, and provides administrative support for intake-related tasks across programs and staff. The Intake Coordinator’s responsibilities align with and support KIDTHINK’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Preforms in-depth intake processes for referrals including initial referral screening, conducting triage and screening calls with clients to determine service needs, collecting and accurately identifying relevant information based on the client’s representation of information.
- Assesses appropriateness and eligibility of referrals for Kidthink services.
- Ensures all appropriate documentation is collected and filed in EMR to complete the client intake process.
- Connects referrals to external resources or other service providers as needed.
- Assist clients in completing intakes.
- Coordinates intake availability of mental health providers and assigns new cases.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION**:
- Bachelor’s in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or other comparable field.
- Licensed with applicable professional designation.
- An equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.
- Training and Certificates in the following are preferred: Emergency First Aid, NVCI and ASIST.
**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE**:
- Knowledge of intake, crisis intervention, creating safety plans, triage, and/or system navigation.
- Understanding of clinical skills in the mental health assessment and treatment of children as well as their families.
- Knowledge of mental health conditions and illnesses, including signs, symptoms, treatment, and prognosis of mental illness and emotional distress.
- Understanding of cultural diversity, including Indigenous perspectives and experiences.
- Understanding of intervention modalities, including brief treatment, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, and motivational interviewing.
- Knowledge of The Personal Health Information Act, The Mental Health Act, The Child and Family Services Act, and all other relevant legislation.
- Understanding of Manitoba’s health and social welfare system.
**SKILLS**:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with proficiency in English.
- Demonstrated ability to listen effectively.
- Strong organizational skills and excel in time management practices.
- Ability to deal with people in distress, de-escalation skills.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
**EXPERIENCE**
- Two years of related experience.
- Working experience in a health care or mental health facility, organization or agency.
- Experience in mental health intake and triage of clients.
- Experience in providing basic service consultation to a variety of referral sources.
- Must have legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid._
