If you have answered “yes”, then we want you to continue reading We are currently seeking a **Full Time** **Nursing Unit Clerk **to join our 4BD Surgical Unit at Burnaby Hospital located in **Burnaby, B.C.** with easy access to major highways and a widespread network of public transit.
Fraser Health is responsible for the delivery of hospital and community-based health services to over 1.9 million people in 20 diverse communities from Burnaby to Fraser Canyon on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Coast Salish and Nlaka’pamux Nations, and is home to six Métis Chartered Communities. Detailed Overview: Under the general supervision of the Manager, Health Services, performs reception and clerical duties related to the operation of the unit. Responsibilities:
- Processes physicians' written orders; flags charts for RN to check.
- Compiles charts and Kardex on admission; prepares and completes necessary documentation for admission of surgical patients, discharges, transfer or death of a patient.
- Maintains departmental timekeeping; enters payroll data into computer; prints reports for the manager; makes adjustments as required.
- Answers telephone, take and relay messages, answers routine inquiries or refer as appropriate; opens and distributes mail, faxes, etc.
- Acts as a receptionist; greets and directs visitors and patients.
- Orients new staff and students to unit; demonstrates procedures, answers questions and explains unit organization and layout.
- Picks up and sign for narcotics as required.
- Maintains stationary and supply levels for unit; monitors stock, prepares requisition for reorder.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
**Education and Experience**
Grade 12, completion of a Unit Clerk Program plus one (1) year's recent, related experience as a unit clerk in an acute facility or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
**Skills and Abilities**
- Ability to type at 40 w.p.m.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision and organize workload.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to operate a computer and related equipment.
