The Burnaby Hospital redevelopment project is a multi-phase project that will transform the hospital into a modernized medical and surgical health care campus. Phase one is slated to open in spring 2025 and phase two in 2030.
Highlights of the two-phase redevelopment project include:
- Expanded Emergency Department with additional treatment spaces

LI-DNIDetailed Overview: Under the general supervision of the Manager, Health Services, performs reception and clerical duties related to the operation of the unit. Responsibilities:
Processes physicians' written orders; flags charts for RN to check.
Compiles charts and Kardex on admission; prepares and completes necessary documentation for admission of surgical patients, discharges, transfer or death of a patient.
Maintains departmental timekeeping; enters payroll data into computer; prints reports for the manager; makes adjustments as required.
Answers telephone, take and relay messages, answers routine inquiries or refer as appropriate; opens and distributes mail, faxes, etc.
Acts as a receptionist; greets and directs visitors and patients.
Orients new staff and students to unit; demonstrates procedures, answers questions and explains unit organization and layout.
Picks up and sign for narcotics as required.
Maintains stationary and supply levels for unit; monitors stock, prepares requisition for reorder.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education and Experience
Grade 12, completion of a Unit Clerk Program plus one (1) year's recent, related experience as a unit clerk in an acute facility or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to type at 40 w.p.m.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and organize workload.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to operate a computer and related equipment.
