This includes people living with HCV, people who use drugs, those experiencing homelessness and equity deserving communities.

**Consumption and Treatment Site (CTS) - 150 Duke Street West, Kitchener**

Sanguen employs a team of Nurses, Peer Support Workers, Social Support Workers and Administrative staff to operate the CTS main site. The team supports community members as they use their own pre-obtained drugs. Clients receive safer injection education/support, are monitored for adverse reactions, and receive overdose and emergency response as necessary. Clients also receive basic primary care including injection drug use issues, education and testing for sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections, and referrals to other health and social service providers.

**Summary of the Role**The CTS Social Support Worker is part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary CTS staff team, providing shift coverage as-needed, including with short notice. Using a client-centered, harm reduction approach, the Social Support Worker will provide brief counselling and support, advocacy, and direct referrals to wrap-around health and social services both internal and external to the CTS.

**The CTS operates from 8:30am to 9:30pm, 7 days per week. The site is open 365 days per year, including all holidays**.

**Responsibilities**

  • Support a safe, welcoming, non-judgmental, relaxed space for all clients.
  • Provide one-on-one support and advocacy, using a harm reduction and trauma informed approach, to people who use drugs. This includes providing and facilitating referrals to both on and off-site agencies, supports, and services.
  • Provide brief counselling (e.g., motivational interviewing).
  • Provide assistance responding to overdoses and other onsite emergency responses as-needed.
  • Work with other CTS staff to maintain flow of clients into and out of each client area of the CTS.
  • Complete documentation as required
  • Maintain accurate data and information, including referrals and harm reduction supply distribution.
  • Participate in evaluation processes related to the CTS and people accessing the services.
  • Work as a collaborative member of the CTS Team.

**Qualifications**

  • Post-secondary education in the social services field or a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience. Personal experience with substance use is a significant asset.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing a harm reduction approach to working with people who use drugs and who are also experiencing complex systemic oppression.
  • Understanding of anti-oppression principles and ability to work effectively with people of various cultural, age and economic backgrounds.
  • Genuinely like people who use drugs and support their right to self-determination.
  • Knowledge of local social service agencies, supports, and services, and experience navigating those systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team that includes people who use drugs.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

**This position also requires**

**Compensation**:$30.00/hour
