Housekeeper

**Purpose**: To maintain a clean and safe environment while working as a member of the team to provide a comfortable environment for the residents of the Meadows of Aurora.

**Reporting to**: Manager of Facilities Services

**Qualifications**: Ability to follow oral and written instructions in the English language.

In good health and have the ability to do heavy lifting.

Experience in an institutional housekeeping department

A mature attitude

A genuine interest in people

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Residents**:
a. Build relationships to promote the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing of residents

b. Provide choice and decision-making opportunities to residents in all circumstances. Maintain residents’ autonomy as much as possible

c. Be creative when problem-solving difficult situations and interactions

d. Speak kind and affirming words to residents. Do not infantilize them. Treat them with respect and as adults

e. Get to know **each** resident’s preferences and simple pleasures

f. Be very mindful of maintaining residents’ privacy

g. Dignity must be the foundation of everything you do and say

h. Observe / report any possible signs of health decline or changes to residents’ behavior to team leader or nursing team

a. Communicate clearly with all staff (ie: nursing team, laundry team, housekeeping team, maintenance team, and team leader)

c. Acknowledge that only English is to be spoken while on duty

**Assignment**:
a. Maintain a clean and sanitary environment in the building

b. Clean, disinfect, all public areas of the facility and common places

c. Clean apartments for residents on a fee for service basis

d. Provide laundry services for residents on a service fee basis

e. Clean common places as assigned

f. Vacuum / mop corridors and sanitize handrails

g. Check sitting areas/lounges daily and ensure seats are all straightened up; remove any items that don’t belong there and ensure place is presentable

h. Request and put away supplies on a weekly basis; keep custodian room clean, organized and clutter free. Ensure carts are sanitized; spray bottles are properly labelled for Health and Safety.

i. Report all mechanical or maintenance deficiencies, accidents, safety hazards to housekeeping supervisor, reception, concierge, or maintenance

j. Immediate response to emergencies

k. Practice safe work practices and ensure employee responsibilities as per Occupational Act are performed

l. Perform specific duties assigned according to schedule provided by supervisor

m. Inform supervisor of any changes / cancellations requested by residents

n. Participate scheduled meetings

o. Perform other duties as assigned

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $19.00 per hour

- 8 hour shift

- Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Aurora, ON L4G 1X5: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Experience**:

- Cleaning: 1 year (preferred)
