**Purpose**:
The Director of Environment Protection provides strategic leadership and oversight for the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental policies, programs, and regulations. This role is responsible for protecting environmental resources, ensuring compliance with environmental laws, building environmental awareness and advocating for the environmental interests within the context of traditional knowledge and Kanien’kehá:ka values, and advancing sustainable practices in alignment with organizational goals and applicable legislation.

**Roles & Responsibilities**

**Strategic leadership and policy development that will protect and preserve the natural environment of Kahnawà:ke and Tioweró:ton.**
- Lead the development and execution of environmental protection strategies, permits requirements, policies, and regulations
- Advise senior leadership and the Council of Chiefs on environmental risks, priorities, and legislative changes.
- Ensures development of environmental standards for the Territories of Kahnawà:ke and Tioweró:ton.
- Develop procedures and protocols for environmental inspections, enforcement, and follow-up.
- Ensures the LCC/CDMP process is followed.
- Analyzes and studies social trends and environmental issues that may impact the Community.
- Uses traditional knowledge, science, and best practices to establish the goals and priorities for environmental studies, environmental protection plans, environmental remediation, and enhancement activities.
- Develops strategies to incorporate environmental programs and awareness into the organization & community within the context of traditional Kanien’kehá:ka values.
- Evaluates and prioritizes external project proposals, legislative changes and environmental initiatives and analyses the impacts on Community interests.
- Develop and maintain environmental risk mitigation plans and response protocols.
- Coordinate emergency response actions related to environmental hazards (e.g., spills, pollution incidents).
- Monitor environmental data and trends to anticipate and address potential environmental threats.

**Stakeholder engagement and public communication.**
- Builds linkages, environmental awareness, and advocates for environmental interests in within Kahnawà:ke and Tioweró:ton.
- Engage with the organization and community stakeholders to encourage participation and transparency in environmental decision-making.
- Represents the MCK on environmental matters to external governments, corporations, non-profit organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Develops partnerships with external agencies and organizations to advance environmental issues relevant to Kahnawa’kehró:non.
- Advocates for accommodation measures that benefit the environment and Kahnawa’kehró:non.
- Presents MCK environmental positions to hearings, tribunals, committees, and other forums.
- Communicates and advocates operational initiatives.
- Ensures that community development is aligned with environmental standards.

**Leadership and operational management of Kahnawake Environmental Protection Unit.**
- Develop and implement strategic plans and objectives for the unit in alignment with the organization's overall goals and mission.
- Set performance targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the unit, ensuring these align with broader organizational objectives.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the unit, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and quality in all activities.
- Develop, implement, and refine operational processes, procedures, and policies to enhance the unit's effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and organizational policies.
- Prepare, manage and monitor the unit's budget, including forecasting expenses and allocating resources effectively.
- Lead and manage the unit's staff, including recruitment, training, development, and performance evaluation.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the unit, representing its interests and activities within the organization and to external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other units, departments, and external partners to achieve common goals and enhance overall organizational performance.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including senior management, clients, and community members, to provide updates, reports, and information on unit activities.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $1,881.20-$2,125.20 per week
