Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

The incumbent is accountable for performing the design and database work under supervision, within cost and schedule limits, as defined in approved work packages. As needed the incumbent will seek guidance from senior resources in the team.

Key Responsibilities

TECHNICAL:

- Prepares specialized signaling design skills, covering one or more of the following:

- Signaling Principles
- Data Requirements
- Block Design
- Application database design
- Ensures the signaling design is implemented in accordance with applicable standards and signaling principles.
- Prepares and supports customer requirements compliance assessment, and gap analysis.
- It is also important as a signaling design engineer to understand the system, subsystem, and interface requirement specifications and have the ability to assess how these will impact the data requirements and database design.
- The Signaling Engineering team at times will also participate in system design work. This would include developing system, subsystem, and interface requirement specifications and performing compliance assessments to customer requirements.
- Interfaces and builds strong working relationships with Software, Hardware and IVVQ groups to ensure timely analysis and resolution of in-house and field test issues and to ensure a good understanding of the Signaling Design.

SAFETY:

- Promotes a safety culture where product safety is paramount.
- Ensures that safety is built into the design by early identification and resolution of safety related defects

Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Systems, Electrical, Computer), Computer Science, or a closely related field
- Entry-level 1-2 years expertise in URS (Urban Rail Signaling) Systems or equivalent educational background
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work under supervision to produce the required artifacts.
- Has a technical curiosity to understand how systems work

Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience in using DOORS, Polarion, Melody advance, or other system design and requirement management tools.
- Knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices.
- Experience in developing/reviewing test scenarios and/or procedures to test database implementation
- Experience in the development of databases used for software development
- Understanding of the use of tools to create/verify data for safety critical systems
- Rail Signaling knowledge
- Strong planning and organizational skills
