An integral role in the HSE team and support to the ACI team, the Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist ensures compliance with all legislation surrounding Occupational Health and Safety, workplace safety and insurance, environmental, AODA and Human Rights legislation. The incumbent is also to ensure everyone works safely while performing job duties. Adherence to OHS, ISO & OSHMS standards. This role is responsible for implementing and monitoring health & safety programs ensuring desired results, attending and conducting Health & Safety Meetings, including follow-up ensuring all necessary stakeholders are informed of status, and sssists in implementing and maintaining all H& S initiatives, policies, etc and establishes best practices for ACI.

**Position Responsibilities**:

- Completes new hire orientation.
- Completes all forms & documentation for WSIB and ensuring compliance and all necessary reporting is accurate.
- Works with WSIB on compensations claims and maintains elements and documentation of modified work and return to work initiatives.
- Consults with WSIB on the status of claims and maintains all associated files.
- Maintains SDS books, evacuation tally sheets and drills
- Oversees environmental initiatives ensuring compliance with ISO 14001 requirements.
- Consults with necessary departments regarding new equipment purchases, ergonomic design, guarding, etc. to ensure due diligence.
- Conducts employee meetings & information sessions on a regular basis for issues relating to H&S and the environment.
- Supports co-chairs of the JHSC.
- Oversee and maintain medical surveillance program.

**Essential Skills and Experience**:

- Minimum 3 years experience in a similar health & safety role
- familiar with WSIB and Ministry of Labour initiatives and the Ministry of the Environment
- Strong knowledge of employment standards, and due diligence
- ability to multitask and priorize work
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to keep the strictest confidentiality when dealing with employee information, medical and modified work limitations, etc.
- Experience with ergonomic assessments is a strong asset
- Previous experience in an autotive setting is considered an asset

**Education**:

- College diploma in Occupational Health & Safety is required or must be attained - or closely related discipline. Equivalent experience and training will be considered.
