On-road Heavy Equipment Technician

**Summary**
The On-Road Heavy Equipment Technician is required to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy trucks, as well as promote and participate in Goal Zero Initiative. The On-Road Heavy Equipment Technician will have the ability to troubleshoot major and minor mechanical problems, as well as have the ability to repair and adjust all necessary mechanical components.
**Knowledge/Skills/Abilities**
- Positively participate in company safety program and adhere to all safety requirements.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot heavy trucks.
- Able to perform complete repair and overhaul functions in a timely manner.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance.
- Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts.
- Determine the extent of the required repair.
- Maintenance, service and inspection of equipment to detect faults and malfunction.
- In-depth knowledge of Trucks including air brake systems, and ABS systems.
- Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances.
- Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required.
- Installation of new and added-on equipment.
- Repair cooling and lubrication systems.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform other maintenance work.
- Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation
**Knowledge/Skills**
- Knowledge of mechanical repairs for heavy highway trucks and other on-road vehicles.
- Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics and electrical, including schematics and diagnostics.
- Experience with routine maintenance operations.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Able to work well under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail.
**Experience/Education**
- Must hold a Journeyperson’s certificate.
- 3 to 5 years of experience working with highway trucks/trailers.
- Ability to perform Commercial Vehicle Inspections with certification.
- Must have valid Class 5 driver’s license. Class 3 with Air Endorsement would be considered an asset.
- Experience on off-road equipment would be considered an asset.
**Working Conditions**
- Travel to off-site locations will be required.
- Overtime as required, plus possible weekends.
- Work both indoors and outdoors.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements including pre-employment drug, alcohol, and fitness to work test.
- May need to meet the requirements for Mask/Respirator Fit Test.
- Must be a current member of the IUOE Local 955 union, or willing to join.
