The District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (DNVFRS) is a mission-oriented emergency services agency focused on the safety and well being of the community. With over 130 firefighters, command, training, and support staff at five fire stations, we serve the District’s 160 square kilometres of urban and wilderness land, and our 82,500 residents. The DNVFRS is the first career department in BC and 9th in Canada to achieve Accredited Agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
With two Assistant Fire Chief positions available, the District of North Vancouver Fire Service (DNVFS) is known for its innovation and collaboration across the North Shore. The DNVFS is well poised to transition into a state of the art, 21st century Fire Service. Joining our team at this time in a senior leadership capacity presents an exciting opportunity. This role is ideal for a proactive individual who excels in achieving results. The Assistant Fire Chief position entails overseeing the administrative, operational, and leadership aspects of the Fire Department, including strategic planning, organization, coordination, project management, and procurement of goods and services to support fire operations.
You are a forward thinking, visionary leader capable of implementing progressive ideas and concepts and able to operate in a participatory environment. You will demonstrate a genuine concern and interest for the well-being and professional development of staff in an environment that encourages personnel to perform at a high level while providing effective and efficient services for the benefit of the community.
You should have a good knowledge of Fire & Rescue administrative functions, budgets, labour relations and strategic planning. You have completed the minimum educational requirements (listed below) as related to the practical, technical, supervisory and administrative aspects of the work, and possess sound related operational, administrative, and fire prevention experience, preferably at a leadership level.
**Qualifications **_(or equivalent experience/education)_**
- NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications - Fire Officer IV.
- Executive Fire Chief Officer (ECFO) and/or Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation.
- Have completed formal post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Business Administration, Emergency Management, Fire Service Leadership or a related field.
- Available for rotational after-hours on-call duty with a maximum emergency incident response time of 45 minutes from time of notification to on-scene.
- Demonstrated computer competency in related business and office software programs.
- Demonstrated business writing competency including briefings, memorandums and reports.

- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Valid B.C. Driver’s License, Class 3 with Air Brake endorsement.
- NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications - Fire Officer III.
- NFPA 1521, Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer - Incident Safety Officer.
- NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications - Level II.
- Blue Card Incident Command Certification.
**Details**
**Salary**:The pay range for this exempt position is $137,898.63 to $153,184.17 per annum (2022 rates)
**Hours of Work**:35-hour work week (Compressed work schedule available)
