The Communications team collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to share impactful stories, promote achievements, and connect with a diverse audience through various platforms. **Responsibilities**: The Communications Assistant provides dynamic and detail-oriented support to the Faculty of Social Science’s Communications team. The incumbent will play a key role in crafting engaging content, managing social media channels and web updates, and assisting with promotional campaigns that highlight academic and student achievements. Key Responsibilities: - Create, edit, and publish engaging content for social media, newsletters, and the Faculty’s website - Assist in developing strategies to amplify stories about student success, faculty research, and departmental highlights - Monitor and analyze social media performance, preparing reports to guide content strategy - Support event promotion by creating marketing materials and coordinating communications efforts - Collaborate with the team to ensure consistent branding and messaging across all channels - Respond to inquiries and engage with the community through social media platforms - Update our website daily (news, stories and events) **Education**: - Must be a student returning to studies in the fall **Experience**: - Previous work experience in a similar role or within the department Skills, Abilities & Expertise: - Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with attention to detail - Proficiency in social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter) and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) - Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines - Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset - Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals - Strong communication skills with careful attention to detail and accuracy - Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements - Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with a genuine customer service orientation - Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment - Ability to create a positive impression while interacting with others and responding to inquiries, by - telephone, in person or electronically - Availability to work on-site at Western University **Why Western?**: Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance, experience, and qualifications.
