**Position Overview**: *
We are seeking to hire a full-time, permanent Fibre Field Service Technician based in Ancaster, ON. You will be responsible for the hands-on day-to-day integration, repair and maintenance of customer services and the fibre optic outside plant. You are a self-starter who works well both independently and as part of a greater team, with excellent organizational and communication skills. This position acts as a prime in-field technical contact for support groups in the areas of on-site customer support, network construction, repair, maintenance and support.
This role requires basic knowledge of IP Networking, working knowledge of broadband network deployments, as well as a basic knowledge of telecom services. This position will involve periodic on call support and off-hours maintenance work.
**Key responsibilities include**:
- Strong problem solving, organizational, verbal, listening and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and interact with groups throughout the organization.
- Capable of working on a variety of projects and coordinating multiple priorities.
- Aptitude in IP networking which includes IP addressing and basic routing.
- Knowledge in telecom installation techniques at the customer premise. Outside plant knowledge is a plus: Fibre Optic and copper cabling, punching, proper cable pulling techniques, racking, ground systems, static precautions, Occupational Health and safety as it relates to construction.
- Strong understanding around AC and DC power systems and conversions including: voltage and wiring of single and poly-phase alternating current cables, direct current, and negative grounded direct current
- Experience with identifying all major types of Fiber and copper network connectors.
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Strong organizational and time/task management skills
- 1-year related work experience or a degree/diploma from a related discipline.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
- Experience with fixed wireless and Fibre optic network deployments.
- Certified Fibre Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent experience would be an asset
- Experience with Fibre Optic troubleshooting tools & test sets (OTDR, Power Meters)
- Strong troubleshooting skills. The ability to break problems down using an Analytical approach.
- Exposure to industry standards for Health & Safety, Construction & CSA
- Working knowledge of networking technologies including TCP/IP, routers, switches, DHCP
- Basic understanding of Fibre Optic network architecture and infrastructure.
- The ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions
- Experience installing and troubleshooting broadband, IPTV, and telephone services.
