The Peel District School Board (PDSB) is a racially, culturally and linguistically diverse board that serves 155,000+ students and approximately 17,000 employees. A responsive and empathetic understanding of the lived experiences of the students and communities we serve is vital to those who will take on leadership roles within the PDSB. The workforce consists of teachers, office staff, custodial staff, education assistants and professional staff. The workforce is largely unionized through PDSB’s numerous affiliated bargaining agents.
We currently have an opportunity for a Long Term Occasional BEHAVIOURAL SPECIAL NEEDS EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT (BEA)
Supporting students with special needs including physical and development needs (e.g. ASD, DD, CP, Down Syndrome). Special needs students may also require support with behavioural needs. Duties may include toileting, lifting, transferring, feeding, dressing and personal hygiene.
All EA assignments are Level 3 unless otherwise noted.
LTOs $24.67 per hour (plus vacation pay) and benefits for LTOs over four (4) months (starting from the beginning of the LTO)
The Board shall undertake to hire Employees with appropriate post-secondary education and directly related experience. Suggested appropriate qualifications include:
Autism and Behavioural Science
Behavioral Science Technology
Child and Youth Worker / Child and Youth Care
Community and Justice
Corrections Worker
Developmental Disabilities Worker
Development Service Worker
Educational Assistant / Educational Support
Early Childhood Education (with special needs experience)
Intervenor for Deaf-Blind Persons
Post-ECE Advanced Studies in Special Needs
Bachelor of Arts - Child and Youth Care
Bachelor of Arts - Psychology
Bachelor of Arts - Sociology
Bachelor of Arts - Exceptionality in Human Learning
Bachelor of Social Work
Registered Nurse
Registered Practical Nurse
Social Service Worker (Gerontology and Immigrants and Refugees specializations not applicable)
Ontario College of Teachers Certification with minimum Additional Qualification (AQ) in Spec. Ed. Part 1
