**If you’ve recently graduated in Construction, Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying, this could be an ideal opportunity to join the preconstruction team of a leading civil engineering contractor.**:
You’ll be responsible for a crucial part of the tender process - taking off of materials. Itemising all the materials and components, then calculating the cost per item, to enable the estimator to create an accurate tender. Accuracy is the key to the success of this role - they’ll often be a huge amount of different components in a project, which can result in a large variation on the total cost proposed by the estimator (if not accurate). This can lead to a tender being too expensive and the project not being secured.
So, as you can see, you’ll play a genuinely key role in what tenders are being secured.
You’ll be in a team of similar individuals, mentored by some very experienced estimators. Learning from real experts provides you with an opportunity to grow into a fully-fledged estimator, and really kick on with your career. As said earlier, preconstruction really is the place to be in a construction/civil engineering business - the riches await
So, what do you need? A degree as per above, some experience working for a construction or civil engineering business would be great, experience within preconstruction amazing. Above all, a passion to learn, a real diligent approach to your work and excellent attention to detail. And high standards on producing accurate work
Excellent starting salary circa £35k plus benefits.
