ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

Under the direction of the food services supervisor, responsible for the delivery and serving of meals to residents, and the cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment in accordance with specific standards and regulations.

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS

Successful completion of, or enrolled in, a Food Service Worker program at a college established under the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 or a Food Service Worker program provided by a registered private career college and approved by the Superintendent of Private Career Colleges under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005.

Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998 or the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009; or have entered into a registered training agreement in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998 or the Ontario College of Trade and Apprenticeship Act, 2009. O. Reg. 246/13, s. 7.

A person who was working or employed as a food service worker in a long-term care home immediately before July 1, 2010, in a different home if he or she, worked on full-time basis for at least three years during the five years immediately before being employed in the different home, or worked on a part-time basis for the equivalent of at least three full-time years during the seven years immediately before being employed in the different home; and completed a food handler training program on or before October 1, 2010, unless he or she met the requirements under subsection (1) before then. O. Reg. 246/13, s. 7.

Students hired on a seasonal or part-time basis, who have successfully completed a food handler training program.

Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma in food and nutrition management or a post-secondary degree in food and nutrition.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participates in and contributes to the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) activities.
- Serves in the dining room, verbally delivering menu and taking and fulfilling the resident’s food choices.
- Ensures residents receive correct diet order and food preferences for those residents in the assigned area of the dining room.
- Puts away food products upon receiving, following proper storage procedures.
- Sets dining room tables and prepares trays, if required.
- Clears and cleans dining room.
- Washes and puts away dishes.
- Washes pots and cleans kitchen equipment and assigned area.
- Portions food from steam table and portions desserts for meal service.
- Follows safe food handling practices.
- Provides assistance to cooks in preparation of food and assembly of salad/sandwich plates as assigned.
- Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System, Food Premises regulations and LTC/RH dietary standards. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
- Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
- Completes all required mandatory training/education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
