**Job Summary**:
The Laboratory Supervisor ensures that Dextran Products performance of the laboratory testing department, which includes planning and scheduling, supervising lab technicians, reviewing testing and ensuring necessary equipment and supplies are available while ensuring we meet customer expectations and attain Dextran Products expectations for safety and quality.

**Primary Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Department Planning: Schedule quality control testing based on production schedule. Work with management to effectively schedule shifts, prioritize testing and make appropriate changes to the lab testing schedule.
- Testing Review: Review and confirm raw material, in-process and finished product lab test results. Communicate out-of-specification results and document in accordance with procedures.
- Perform Laboratory Testing: Perform animal, HPLC and other laboratory testing as required.
- Lab Performance & Training: Supervise the overall performance of, and train all laboratory technicians to adhere to Company procedures and achieve the performance expectations of the organization.
- Lab Equipment & Environment Management: Maintain an adequate supply of lab supplies, testing materials, equipment and ensure that lab equipment is properly calibrated. Ensure that the lab environment is in compliance with all required environmental conditions.
- Safety & Housekeeping: Perform all work adhering to Dextran Products workplace health and safety policy, laboratory safety practices, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Ensure that the work area is properly maintained and cleaned.
- Review QA Documentation: Review final batch records, proposed SOPs and product mast validations for recommendation and approval. Create department SOPs as needed.
- Stability Testing: Schedule and ensure stability testing is properly completed in a timely manner.
- Process Troubleshooting: Assist in troubleshooting manufacturing issues.
- Communication: Coordinate lab testing activities with manufacturing to ensure they are effectively planned to meet production plan commitments. Ensure that laboratory problems are reported to management. Maintain effective and open communication with other departments, Dextran Productsmanagement and all other employees.

**Qualifications**:

- Education: A Bachelors degree in Chemistry or related degree and/or commensurate experience is required.
- Experience: Three or more years of experience supervising laboratory testing, ideally for a chemical and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing company. Seven or more years of laboratory testing experience with a working knowledge of cGLP practices.
- pH, conductivity and viscosity
- loss on drying, clarity and specific rotation
- phenol, iron, sulfate, sulphur and powder ash concentration or content
- animal testing and testing for glucose and oxalic acid content.
- pH and conductivity meters;
- Ubbelohde or Cannon Fenske viscometer
- moisture analyzer, polarimeter and a UV spectrometer
- GPC & HPLC
- Take accountability for managing the performance of a laboratory testing department and lab technicians;
- Effectively schedule and organize lab activities to meet the commitments to the organization and customers;
- Coach and train lab technicians to improve their abilities and attain the highest standards for performance;
- Communicate effectively to multiple departments to ensure effective execution;

**Work Hours**:

- Exempt Position; Shift Monday to Friday: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
- Minimum of 40-45 Hours Week, or other agreed upon documented schedule.

**Pay**:

- Starting at a minimum of $65,000 annually CAD
