**Overview**:
IBC is looking for an energetic individual who “gets it” when it comes to government, community and stakeholder relationships and related communications. In this dynamic role, you will exercise your ability to support the development and implementation of government relations strategies. You are well versed in public policy development and can take an issue, research it, and develop a thorough and accurate briefing note within a tight timeframe. You have an understanding of Ontario politics and government, and the ability to cultivate key contacts in relevant government ministries and with external stakeholder organizations across Ontario. Your attention to detail will shine as you support the VP, Ontario & Atlantic, with the preparation of reports, strategies, and internal and external communications. A keen eye for detail and an ability to introduce process into the work of a fast-paced team environment will allow you to thrive in the role.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- External relationship management: represent IBC and the P&C insurance industry with government and stakeholder groups on issues of common interest.
- Internal relationship management: collaborate with all other IBC departments and the amazing professional team members therein.
- Assist in the development and execution of coordinated public affairs and issues management plans: this will be done with member company direction and collaboration with internal department colleagues.
- Coordinate and draft Ontario Region reports for all IBC committees.
- Support the Ontario Region with correspondence, briefing notes for key meetings, and ad hoc presentation materials.
- Coordinate and execute Ontario Region advocacy events: Queen’s Park Day, political party engagement opportunities, and municipal conferences.
- Represent IBC and the P&C insurance industry in government and industry consultations/initiatives/committees and working groups.
- Work with the Events and Communications teams to develop and execute internal and external strategies designed to leverage IBC’s sponsorship opportunities and enhance our reputation with internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in IBC’s Community Assistance Mobile Pavilion to provide timely insurance support to communities impacted by disasters. Work collaboratively with insurance companies and local/provincial emergency management staff.
- Monitor government agendas and activities and prepare reports on these activities.
- Ensure our members are well served by maintaining open communication within the industry at all times.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor degree in political science, public administration, economics, or in a related field.
- Five years or more of government relations, policy development and/or public affairs experience.
- Familiar with the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, civil service, and provincial political landscape.
- Understand the legislative process, including the important role the civil service and public consultation play in developing government policy.
- Able to take an industry position, research it, develop it, and craft an accurately thorough briefing note within tight timeframes.
- Demonstrate ability in building strategy about complex and multi-faceted issues.
- Knowledge of all aspects of public relations, with an emphasis in writing for various audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Adept at time management in juggling multiple files with member impact.
- Understanding of private property and casualty insurance would be an asset.
- Bilingual English/French would be viewed as a strength.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work effectively within a team structure.
- Process-and-detail oriented, with an ability to manage ambiguity.
- Ability to work under pressure and against strict deadlines.
