**WORK ILLUSTRATION**:
The incumbent leads and executes policy and issues management activities in support of strategic corporate objectives with a range of municipal stakeholders. Working closely with senior management, s/he generates analysis and advice in response to emerging issues, identifies and resolves risks in a coordinated fashion with other business units, and pursues advocacy on sensitive matters.

The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Represents Toronto Hydro in highly politicized and high-risk situations affecting brand and reputation, such as complex or sensitive customer escalations, as well as broader corporate interests
- Serves as Toronto Hydro's liaison with elected officials at the ward/riding level (Councillors, MPP’s, MP’s) to resolve issues, identify and mitigate broader corporate risks, and in the promotion of positive customer and stakeholder experience
- Generates qualitative and quantitative analysis on emerging municipal and provincial issues to advise senior management
- Manages and resolves escalated customer complaints made to the organization through the Office of the President and identifies opportunities to improve customer experience and avoid further escalation to the Customer Advocate
- Conducts research and environmental scanning of the industry and like organizations to understand and validate best practices on emerging risks and issues
- Conducts reviews of government reports or proposals to inform risk mitigation activities and prospective lines of advocacy in support of corporate objectives
- Monitors and reports on developments at City Council, including Council and Committee agendas and meetings

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Relations, or related discipline
- Five (5) or more years of experience in communications, public policy, government relations and/or stakeholder relations
- Experience in government or government relations strongly preferred
- Experience with energy, utilities, electricity or power industry, or with a highly regulated business is preferred
- Track record of working with public officials and public office holders on complex issues
- Strong understanding of municipal and provincial government processes and procedures and their implications to Toronto Hydro
- Results-oriented approach, with the ability to work in a team with multidisciplinary experts in an astute and tactful way, including the ability to mediate
- Superior problem-solving skills; meticulous attention to detail
- Demonstrated track record of working successfully with senior executives on issues management strategy and execution
- Networking skills developed through government relations, industry associations and professional associations
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills with highly evolved customer service and stakeholder management skills
- Excellent organization and planning skills with ability to manage multiple issues in a fast-paced environment

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
