QUALITY ASSURANCE TECHNICIAN - (Day Shift) (Full time - permanent)

We currently have a key role opportunity within our **Mississauga** processing facility Quality Assurance Department to complement our quality initiatives that will allow continued growth within our business.
You intrinsic character will be driven with self-initiative and a steadfast commitment using hands-on food safety experience while being qualified and ambitious to ensure that our processes, products and employees comply with all governing regulations (OMAFRA), (CFIA), and customer expectations surrounding Food Safety and Quality.
This Quality Assurance technician will provide sound direction regarding good manufacturing practices in addition to being a key member of the team. You will have a broad understanding of the organization and share our commitment of success.
Overall accountable for the execution of Quality Assurance / Food Safety programs (SQF) at the Mississauga facility while ensuring that these programs conform to Sargent Farms high standards and expectations.
- Ensure that all quality audits are maintained up to date as per current applicable legislative requirements.
- Act as primary quality contact liaising with the Quality Manager at the plant.
- Ensure on-going adherence to customer specifications.
- Provide plant management team with data related to critical food safety and/or quality processes.
- Actively contribute to the successful quality management of the plant’s processes and employees by offering support, feedback and counsel to employees in all departments.
- Provide prompt feedback and responses to customer and consumer complaints.
- Liaise effectively with colleagues at other facilities, using QA resources to ensure effective sharing of information.
- Provide technical food safety and quality leadership guidance to other plant staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned by QA/HACCP Manager.
- Performs the pre-operational inspection on all equipment and areas of facility.
- Verifies all the monitoring records such as CCP’s / labeling records / other HACCP requirements ensuring daily compliance.
- Conducts daily task ensuring compliance with our SQF program (i.e. CCP, GMP, environmental monitoring).
- Report and follow deviation process for all food safety observed during plant operation.
- Communicates and informs QA Manager for any food safety deviation observed.
- Ensure corrective actions and preventative measures are implemented closing the loop of the deviation.
- Perform Microbiological testing on finished product as per our SQF program.
- Collects scheduled micro samples and prepare as required to send to the outside laboratory for testing.
- Performs environmental (ATP) testing to validate the Sanitation effectiveness.
- Fills out properly, all documentations such as deviation forms / reports / daily observations.
- Ensures full segregation of any suspected unsafe product / equipment / production areas has been placed on hold and QA Manager has been notified immediately.
- Monitors proper disposition of held products according to SQF program.
Follows up on issues which have been observed from Government inspector while taking all required corrective actions.
- Collects all information to perform food safety investigation and root cause analysis related to customer complaints.
- Verifies labelling compliance throughout the process.
- Conduct internal audits.
- Verifies shipping requirements ensuring compliance with our SQF program.
- Responsible for filing all food safety documentation.
- Performs regular testing including chemical titration to ensure compliance.
Preferred Hiring Requirements:
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
- Fluency in English; communicating, reading and writing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word / Excel, Windows.
- Strong mathematical analytical skill.
- Knowledge and training in HACCP, SQF and GMP’s.
- Strong experience in maintaining Quality Assurance programs, HACCP systems.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to exercise initiative and prioritize work to maximize efficiency.
- Must be flexible in shift start and shift finish times.
- Preference of Post-Secondary Education relating to Food Science or related discipline.
- Ability to have within three (3) months, the essential techniques and skills needed to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position.
