**Research Associate, Indigenous Peoples Engagement and Research Council**:
**Primary Purpose**: To provide research and administrative support to the Indigenous People’s Engagement & Research Council (IPERC) and the larger Pewaseskwan team (the Indigenous Wellness Research Group) on wellness-related research. The IPERC comprises Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Holders, people with lived/living experience of health conditions and Indigenous and allied health leaders from across Canada. It will guide various existing and new research collaborations across Canada on the contextualization and adaptation needed for culturally safe and responsive healthcare and research.
**Nature of Work**: The Research Associate will report to the IPERC Research Manager and work closely with the IPERC and the Pewaseskwan team, which includes research associates, community research associates, community partners, students, faculty and others. The responsibilities require a range of academic and community-engaged research knowledge and skills. The role is best suited for someone who can work both independently and collaboratively, has strong organizational and analytical skills, and can effectively balance priorities and deadlines. Our team uses a hybrid work model, balanced between on-campus, remote and community-based work.
**Typical Duties & Responsibilities**:
- ** **Assist in scheduling and coordinating data collection sessions (individual interviews and sharing circles), track participants and ensure necessary records are kept updated and in good order.
- Enact data collection protocols (interviews, sharing circles, questionnaires, etc.) in adherence to approved ethics protocols.
- Facilitate secure transfer and storage of research recordings and raw data per ethics protocols.
- Use NVivo or other research data management software to input/import and organize qualitative data. Knowledge of SPSS is an asset.
- Analysis of research data using qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Engage in literature-based and document-based research efforts to support research data analysis and knowledge mobilization.
- Assist with manuscripts, posters, presentations and other communications for knowledge mobilization with academic and community partners.
**Additional tasks may include**:
- ** **Support project leads and the research team in scheduling and arranging team meetings and gatherings.
- Assist with transcription of research recordings (audio to typed) as needed.
**Qualifications**
**Education**: Applicants will have completed a post-secondary degree in a social or health science field with significant research-based courses and hands-on research experience in collecting, organizing and analyzing qualitative research data.
Applicants currently pursuing postgraduate studies are strongly encouraged to apply.
**Experience**:
Applicants should be able to demonstrate the following:
- A working knowledge of research processes and experience conducting research with human participants firmly adhering to ethical standards.
- First-hand experience facilitating research data collection (e.g., interviews, focus groups and sharing circles). Experience with or knowledge of arts-, land
- and culture-based research activities (e.g., photovoice, research through land and cultural activities) is a vital asset.
- Competency with available software, including Microsoft Office Suite, is necessary. Competency in using NVivo for qualitative research data management, analysis and interpretation is essential. Experience with Zotero and SPSS is an asset.
- Familiarity with administrative duties necessary for research with human participants (e.g., scheduling data collection activities, research-related record keeping and administrative support for research meetings).
- Experience conducting environmental scans and research summaries, and reviews of academic and grey literature, including working with academic databases and web-based searches.
- Experience with written and oral communications of research processes and outcomes for academic and lay/community audiences (e.g., reports, manuscripts and presentations).
**Skills**:
- Takes initiative and is self-directed in independent work but can also effectively collaborate and communicate with teammates from diverse backgrounds and education/experiences.
- Is able to take direction and feedback/guidance from others (e.g., supervisors, academics, team members and community partners).
- Demonstrates a high standard of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters diplomatically and discreetly.
- Can carry out duties efficiently and accurately with mínimal supervision/oversight.
- Can ensure compliance with ethical, community and institutional processes, practices and policies (e.g., TCPS2, HIPA and OCAP).
