**Position Summary**:
- We are seeking a Lead Historical Researcher with expertise in Indigenous history, including issues related to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, (MMIWG), 2SLGBTQ+ people and Truth and Reconciliation. This role combines advanced historical research with team leadership responsibilities, overseeing the research quality, ensuring alignment with project goals, and liaising with stakeholders.
**Major Responsibilities and Duties**:
- Conduct and oversee comprehensive historical research with a focus on MMIWG and Truth and Reconciliation-related materials.
- Liaise with key stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, government agencies, scholars, and internal project leaders, to ensure research objectives align with organizational goals.
- Oversee quality control of research findings, ensuring accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and relevance in all documentation and reports.
- Escalate any significant findings, risks, or issues to the leadership team, proposing solutions and adjustments to maintain project integrity.
- Coordinate and conduct training for team members on best practices in archival research, especially regarding Library and Archives Canada resources.
- Engage with key stakeholders, including Indigenous organizations, communities, scholars, and knowledge keepers, ensuring a respectful and collaborative approach to research.
**Experience and Q**ualifications**:
- Master’s degree or higher in History, Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues surrounding MMIWG, Métis rights and identity, Truth and Reconciliation, or other issues prioritized by First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities in Canada.
- Extensive experience with archival research, such as Library and Archives Canada resources.
- Proven leadership skills with experience in managing and guiding research teams.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills, with attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience in stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
- Ability to work respectfully and effectively within Indigenous contexts and with sensitive topics.
- Experience using academic literature databases and the internet for directed searches
- Ability to engage in problem solving as a member of a research team
**Additional **D**esired **Experience and Q**ualifications**:
- Holds PWGSC Secret security clearance
- Experience working at Library and Archives (LAC)
