**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Regional Coordinator, HIM Informatics and as directed, the Health Information Management Informatics Specialist is responsible for implementing optimization, process improvement, quality and standards initiatives within the organizational/HIM strategic plan. Oversees and provides expertise specific to the integration of health information and technology and supports change initiatives that automate and/or enhance health information practices, access to patient/client information and clinical documentation via the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in collaboration with operational leaders, service, program, staff and physicians.

As an integral regional member of a multi-disciplinary team, the Health Information Management Informatics Specialist works to oversee the development and redesign workflow and processes to improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency of Island Health.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Sciences, Health Care Administration, or a related study. Three years' recent related Health Informatics experience in a health care environment, including experience using related computer technology, change management, and/or project management.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Proven consistent ability to keep up with new technologies as they are introduced to the workplace. Knowledgeable regarding new trends in Health Information Management and systems.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.
- Excellent presentation, interviewing, and facilitating skills.
- Superior consulting skills.
- Working knowledge of systems analysis and design techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems using quality improvement processes.
- Ability to work independently and to participate actively within a team structure.
- Ability to organize workload and priorities.
- Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining successful working relationships with customers, their families, colleagues, stakeholders, and others.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with technical, operational and vendor staff.
- Demonstrated ability to support organizational and/or departmental change management policies and procedures. Change-oriented and possesses an attitude of continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Ability to mentor others.
- Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
