Position Summary
The Indigenous Student Navigator plays a pivotal role in supporting Indigenous students throughout the college by engaging them in programs designed to address their learning needs. Through a student-centered approach, students will be encouraged to develop discipline and focus related to their studies at college. The incumbent will provide students with various skills and approaches to learning that require specific academic management skills combined with self-reflection to build a student’s own sense of direction in their educational journey. The role of Indigenous Student Navigator-Cultural Liaison within the college will work directly with students fostering an inclusive and diverse campus environment. The ISN Cultural Liaison serves as a bridge between students from various backgrounds and the post secondary education environment, offering support and resources tailored to the unique needs and challenges faced by Indigenous students. They will facilitate cultural exchanges, promote understanding, and celebrate diversity through organizing events, workshops, and activities that encourage intercultural dialogue and collaboration with students and with community and regional partners. By creating a sense of belonging and promoting cultural, the ISN Cultural Liaison will play a vital role in enhancing students’ overall college experience and ensuring an inclusive and equitable educational environment.

The incumbent must be attentive to the needs and interests of Indigenous students in terms of understanding and appreciating their diverse backgrounds and interests in college. The incumbent will support the indigenous student union, OASA. The incumbent must be knowledgeable about Indigenous community life and diverse perspectives sensitive to Indigenous students as they experience life changes and begin their transition to learning at Confederation College. The incumbent will respond to individual needs and make appropriate referrals to internal and external resources related to personal, academic and career matters. As these students become more familiar with the college learning environment the incumbent provide mentoring, encouragement and support consistently reaching out to these learners to aid in facilitating their success throughout their college program.

The incumbent will work as part of the ISN team assisting students and potential students transition to and successfully through post-secondary education and training. Each position will have an over-arching specialty.

Two year diploma in appropriate discipline (social service worker/advocacy program/Indigenous learning or a diploma/degree in Education would be an asset.

Type of Experience
**Extensive Knowledge of College Systems and Processes**: The incumbent must have a experience of college systems and processes, particularly as they pertain to supporting marginalized learners. This knowledge will enable them to navigate and leverage available resources to provide effective support for Indigenous students.

**Experience in Supporting Indigenous Students**: The incumbent should have a proven experience working directly with Indigenous students, supporting their transition and entrance into post secondary education. This experience is critical in understanding the unique challenges faced by Indigenous students and providing the necessary guidance and support to ensure their successful adjustment to college life. This experience should reflect an understanding of the cultural, social, and historical contexts of Indigenous students’ experiences and an ability to address their unique needs within the college environment.

**Cultural Leadership**: The incumbent must possess excellent intercultural communication and collaboration skills. This includes the ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, demonstrate cultural sensitivity, and foster understanding and inclusivity within the college community.

**Strong Communication and Engagement Skills**: The incumbent should have exceptional communication skills to establish and maintain meaningful connections with Indigenous students. This includes the ability to actively listen, effectively convey information, and engage in dialogue with sensitivity and respect. The incumbent must also be accessible, approachable, a
