- monitor and respond to evolving situations inside and outside of Ontario and identify potential or actual

threats which may impact public safety
- communicate with PEOC partners and stakeholders
- develop response plans and create various information products for senior management and

elected officials
- draft and issue public alerting messages to broadcasters and via cellular carriers
- monitor and analyze social media, news, and situation reports related to actual or potential events
- determine the appropriate response and coordinate notifications to appropriate federal departments, provincial

ministries, municipalities, First Nations and other agencies
- develop, conduct and review training for PEOC Duty Officers
- provide emergency management advice to stakeholders and partners, based on legislation, plans, policies

and procedures
- develop and present written and verbal reports, briefings, recommendations, and situational awareness

products
- represent the Provincial Emergency Operations Unit or Emergency Management Ontario in internal and external

meetings committees, working groups, teams, projects, seminars, and conferences**What you bring to the team**:
**Mandatory requirements**:

- a valid Ontario class G driver's license (or equivalent) to be able to access sites that may not be accessible by public transit
- willing to work irregular and extended hours particularly during emergencies and be on-call on a regular basis, often on short notice
- obtain provincial security clearances

Please note you may be required to:

- wear a uniform and personal protective equipment in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- travel within Ontario and occasionally to other provinces, territories and the USA
- obtain federal security clearances for certain projects or incidents

**Emergency Management and Technical Knowledge**:

- You have knowledge of Ontario's operational environment including the province's physical environmental characteristics, natural, technological and human caused hazards, critical infrastructure sectors, political landscape, economic, social, information and cyber
- You have knowledge of emergency management (EM) theory, research, issues, doctrine, and legislation to assist and advise communities, senior management, and other emergency organizations regarding specific responses to emergencies
- You can develop emergency plans, develop and present effective training and educational materials
- You have knowledge of provincial and federal emergency management (EM) related programs
- You have knowledge of First Nations emergency management planning and response factors and considerations such as risks, hazards, operating environment, roles and responsibilities and capabilities of key partners
- You have understanding of national, international and other jurisdictional emergency management organizations, structures, mandates and processes

**Analytical and Judgment Skills**:

- You can conduct research, assess potential or actual emergency situations and provide advice, options and recommendations
- You can identify gaps in response and provide appropriate options

**Communication and Interpersonal Skills**:

- You have superior oral and written communications skills to convey complex ideas, develop briefing materials, presentations, briefing notes, and business cases
- You demonstrate strong relationship building, interpersonal and political acuity skills to maintain positive working relationships with staff, management, and a wide array of internal and external stakeholders across all levels of government, industry and the private sector
- You demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity especially when working with people with diverse cultural backgrounds

**Organizational, Planning and Critical Thinking Skills**:

- You have organizational skills to plan and schedule activities
