The Vancouver studio is seeking a Talent Manager to join our team. The Vancouver studio has over 140 employees and Calgary adds an additional 21 to our team. We work with a highly creative team of professionals in our combined studios working on projects that strive for the highest level of sustainable design.
The Talent Manager is responsible for leading talent strategies in collaboration with the office Managing Director, Operations Director and Design Director including strategic planning, compensation planning, coaching, facilitating group sessions, budgeting, and overseeing all human resources and talent functions for the Vancouver and Calgary studios of Perkins&Will. Key to this role is a high level of organization and attention to detail, as the Talent Manager is also responsible for administering specific Canadian payroll issues.
The Talent Manager works alongside the HR Coordinator in the Calgary studio. Together, they manage all aspects of recruitment, on-boarding, benefits, payroll, and performance evaluations. This role also supervises the administrative staff of three in the Vancouver studio.
**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:
- Actively involved in the strategic planning for the combined Vancouver/Calgary studios, providing leadership and guidance to develop and execute talent strategies as it related to current and future needs.
- Acting as a key member of the leadership team to provide a decisive voice on talent strategies in the Vancouver and Calgary studios.
- Facilitating group sessions related to project team engagement and development.
- Providing support, guidance, and mentorship to employees and management on how to provide feedback, difficult conversations, mediating potential conflict, and other required advice.
- Leading the annual compensation planning including completing annual surveys, disseminating results, identifying where we may need to focus on the ensuing compensation planning cycle, and the employee profit-sharing bonus distribution.
- Ensuring we adhere to our pay equity philosophy with new hires and current employees. Consider: Partnering with leadership teams to ensure equity in all talent processes to produce equitable outcomes in support of firmwide Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals.
- Partnering with the HR coordinator on recruitment efforts and the onboarding of new employees.
- Overseeing and understanding all aspects of benefits and payroll. The HR Coordinator is primarily responsible for the day-to-day administration of these responsibilities. The Talent Manager is expected to oversee and ensure the accuracy of this work.
- Coordinating with the Talent Manager in Toronto on Canadian benefits, documentation, policies and procedures.
- Advising and educating employees regarding company programs, benefits, and policies.
- Preparing an annual budget for HR.
- Ensuring electronic personnel files are kept confidential and complete including tracking education accomplishments, certifications and professional registrations.
- Coordinating the year end 360 and performance review process through our platform, Thrive.
- Ensuring compliance with provincial and federal legislation, regulations relating to employment standards, human rights, and privacy legislation.
- Working with Corporate HR to implement firmwide policies.
- Checking work for accuracy, omissions and legibility.
**To Join us you should have**:
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in a generalist HR role with experience in all HR functions and experience being the sole practitioner in this environment.
- Previous experience in a professional service-related field (architecture, law, engineering etc.) is an asset.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with ability to assess, guide, and influence solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal to be clear and concise.
- Able to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple projects to meet all deadlines.
- A solid understanding of HR practices and administration, as well as applicable legislations such as BC and Alberta Employment Standards, Human Rights Act, Work Safe BC/WCB Alberta, and other applicable regulations as well as an understanding of payroll related issues and filing requirements with CRA and Service Canada.
- Strong financial and analytical skills to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make recommendations.
