**What is CSI Summer Learning Program?**
- The Community School Investigators (CSI) Summer Learning Program is an academic program designed to combat summer learning loss and narrow the opportunity gap by providing five free weeks of quality summer programming in a safe and caring environment._
- Every day from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm, children in grades 1-6 take part in numerous activities designed to strengthen their math, reading, and writing skills, along with problem solving and language acquisition. Instructors deliver academic activities in the morning and provide physical activity and cultural experiences in the afternoon. These experiences include field trips, guest artists, sports and recreation activities. To ensure children make the most of the program, they also receive two nutritious meals each day. _

**Position Summary**:
The CSI Instructor will work with children ages 6-12 in classroom and community-based settings to increase the literacy and numeracy skills of students to prevent summer learning loss, and to provide recreation and experiential learning opportunities. The CSI Instructor will be responsible for their own classroom (15-20 children) or in coordination with another instructor. They are responsible for the lesson planning, implementation and evaluation, classroom organizing, participant, staff and volunteer supervision, and ensuring CSI objectives and goals are me

**Responsibilities**:

- Plan, organize, and lead lessons and activities. Activities include numeracy and literacy activities with a STEAM-centred approach, field trips, cultural experiences, and physical activity
- Assess youth interests, needs and the overall program climate and adapt the program to meet the needs.
- Administrative tasks such as tracking and submit participant attendance, evaluations, incident reports, program plans
- Supervise and mentor Classroom Assistants, junior leaders and volunteers
- Utilize, adapt, and assist children and youth to realize their potential by helping them set goals for their future
- Ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of records regarding the agency, program, and participants are maintained 
- Participate in the walking school bus, walking kids safely to and from the program each day.

**REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:

- Experience working with children and youth ranging from 6-18 years of age
- Teaching and lesson or activity planning experience
- Strong behaviour, group, and crisis management skills
- Knowledge and understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion to work with young people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, abilities and experiences.
- Assessment of students in various settings using best practice principles and evidence-based knowledge
- Aptitude in problem solving with the ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities and experience in crisis management
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills
- Clear understanding and demonstration of healthy boundaries and confidentiality
- Must provide a copy of clear Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry Checks obtained within 6 months prior to hire date.

**ASSETS**:

- Completed or enrolled in the Faculty of Education at a university
- Current and valid CPR and Emergency First Aid Certification
- Experience supervising/mentoring staff and or volunteers
- Experience working collaboratively with colleagues with coordination, planning, and delivery of activities
