Job Profile   Under the general direction of the Chief Instructor, the Transit Instructor is responsible for preparing and coordinating the design, development and delivery of a variety of training programs including the Supervisor-In-Training Program. The Transit Instructor also works as part of a service delivery team.The Transit Instructor delivers training in a variety of formats including classroom training, manuals, in-vehicle training and multimedia for a diverse, multi-cultural workforce of Departmental staff, outside contractors, and other special interest groups. As the  Transit Instructor   your duties will include: Train, coach and instruct new bus operators on the knowledge, skills and expectations required to professionally operate a Transit vehicle in/out of service in a safe and efficient manner, during the New Bus Operator Training Program. Training consists of classroom and in-vehicle instructional modules. Train, coach and instruct new and existing employees to provide professional customer service to internal and external customers. Perform ride observation checks on bus operators. Provide coaching and reports, as required. Design, develop and deliver other training and orientation programs, including in-service training on various topics (i.e. Smart Card, Transit Assault Prevention Strategy (TRAPS), South West Transitway (SWT), Transit In-Service Program (TRIP), and Zero Emission Buses (ZEB). Develop and deliver remedial training programs to Transit employees upon request. Instruct bus operators for specialized services such as Winnipeg Transit On-Request (OR). Work with Plant and Equipment Department to evaluate new/retrofited equipment. Conduct Manitoba Provincial Class 2 driver’s license and pre-trip with air brake certification tests for Winnipeg Transit employees. Act as Chief Instructor (as required). Act as a member of Winnipeg Transit's Accident Adjudication Committee (AAC) and Assault Review Committee (ARC). Perform other duties as assigned.Your education and qualifications include: Certificate in Program Development for Adult Learners or Teaching for Learning in Applied Education. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in training bus operators in an urban transit environment. Knowledge of the City of Winnipeg street system and Winnipeg Transit’s routes, schedules, fares, policies, vehicle operation, etc. Knowledge of Winnipeg Transit’s communication system (Infodev, Intracom, Replay, and Intraview). Knowledge of departmental training programs, operating policies, procedures, systems, and methods. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and intraOp. Ability to remain current and knowledgeable on all Transit policies and procedures. Ability to remain current and knowledgeable on labour agreements, attendance policy, performance standards, wages, and benefits. Strong communication skills including verbal and written communications, staff presentations, formal reporting, teambuilding, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. Strong customer service skills while working with the public. Strong organizational, planning and coordinating skills with a high level of analytical skills. Ability to promote a culture conducive to the development of a highly motivated workforce, where initiative, creativity and innovation are required, encouraged and nurtured. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with front-line employees, including teambuilding and collaboration with other supervisors/managers, union officials and inter-departmental partners.
